Did Anyone Watch The Vikings QB Last Night?
Minnesota's backup wasn't just a disaster, he was worse than a disaster. I've never seen such inept play from an NFL QB in my life. He threw the ball into the ground, he tossed it straight up in the air, he did everything except throw it to one of his receivers. Around the end of the third quarter he had 20 yards of passing. 20! And he's Minnesota's second string QB. One can only speculate about how bad the 3rd stringer must be if Webb is 2nd string.
I see that kind of play and it's beyond me why a team like Minnesota (and they can't be the only team like that) wouldn't be doing everything possible to sign Tim when he leaves the Jets. I know the concern with him being a sideshow, I know he isn't a prototypical NFL QB. But good grief, he's got to be a gigantic improvement over what Minnesota has behind Ponder.
I have to admit that I didn't watch the entire game. If he got much better towards the end then I'm off base. And I do know it was his first game of the year.

You are probably right. But what true Gator fan wants Tebow playing behind Ponder? Something just downright wrong with that!

I watched most of the game and he did not improve as the game progressed. The only thing he did ok was run the option, and I'm sure Tim could do that better as well. But as stated above me, Tebow sitting behind Ponder just isn't right, because Ponder isn't that good either.

He's not the only one. There are several QBs in the NFL that you have to say huh????? How are they playing on this level? Which leads to the inescapable conclusion. There is a lot more to the benching of Tebow than meets the eye.

Unfortunately, I think this may hold Tim back. It's going to take an organization that really wants him to pull the trigger. There is probably too much fear factor, though, that the "sideshow" will detract from the team and damage a QB's fragile ego.

to play devil's advocate, webb looking horrible doesn't mean that a team should go out and make tebow their starter and build their franchise around him.
what it does mean.....is that anyone who doesn't think tebow is good enough to be on a roster (and there are some with that belief) and that he has no business being in the league are full of ****.
tebow is definitely worthy of being on a roster and from what i have seen is better than a vast majority of backup qb's. there is no question in my mind that tebow is capable of playing and helping a team win (because we have proof of that). having seen a number of backup qb's this year, most of them can't.
so, yeah, i think it makes sense for a team to have him on the roster whether he is a future starter or not.

This thread points out that a QB who is told he is starting after having not thrown one pass all season is likely to be heaving much more than the ball in the air.

If Tebow had the lack of media coverage and lack of a sideshow (not Tim's fault) that Webb has, he'd have no problem being picked up by any number of teams in the NFL as at least a backup, if not a starter. A team can't just pick up Tebow and then just have a normal QB competition. They have all the media coverage, the teammates become split with some believing in Tim and the others getting angry and jealous about the amount of coverage he gets, etc. It's just too much for many team to put up with, especially if he's going to be their backup QB. I have no doubt that Tim could start in this league, but I'm starting to believe that the media hype, fan hype, and other sideshow things are going to keep him from getting the chances that other QBs get.

If this turns out to be true, it has happened before, with Flutie. He went to Canada to prove his worth, Tim may have to do the same. He needs to play

Webb is the worst QB I've seen EVER. Period.

I am a Vikings fan and watched the entire game. Prior to the start of the game even though Webb had not thrown a pass all year I actually thought he might have given us a better chance. Ponder had his worst game of the season at Lambeau when he was healthy and injured the way he was there was no way he could have done better. The last time we saw Webb he was beating the playoff bound Eagles in 2010. I have no idea what happened to him since, he is a ridiculous athlete who seems to have completely regressed in the passing game.
And though I am a Gator fan and love Tim I don't want him anywhere near the Vikings. Dealing with the outside drama from one former player is more than enough.

I always see Webb play in the preseason, as my friend guilts me into recording the games for him.
Webb always plays well during the preseason, that's why he keeps his roster spot. The problem is the guy gets absolutely no work during the regular season and is really rusty.

When Flacco was hurt I believe the Ravens used former VT QB Tyrod Taylor. Another example of if Tyrod Taylor is on an NFL roster than for the love of God TT belongs on an NFL roster unless it is money because I am sure Tyrod is making the league minimum.
I also think if Russell Wilson is a star without question then TT could be. TT is a better athlete than RW and just as good a leader.
So, I think TT should find a home somewhere but as I've said before he also one step away from being Brian Griese's partner in the booth so if it is going to happen it better happen soon.

I thought it was a great move by the Vikings front office. Starting Webb was a win/win for the team. Ponder wasn't going to win this game so why put him out there to fail. Start Webb and if he plays well (he had a few good scrambles but they went away from the run too early) then great and if he looks horrible, which he did, it builds the hopes of Viking fans on what could have been. Viking fans are lining up to buy tix for next year because they all now think Ponder is an incredible talent next to Webb.
The facts of football are that there are only a few people on the planet that can actually play the position at a high level. I'm talking can read defenses, knows line protections, go through progressions and throw the ball accurately. 6 or 7 guys in total. That's it.

The harsh criticism of Tim is because of his overt Christianity. The lefties in the media don't want to attack his faith so they bash his mechanics.
Ray Lewis may well have killed, or been an accomplice to the killing of two guys, but he is being celebrated as a hero.
