Wish I knew what was going on with Daniel. There are rumors floating around that UF admissions might not let him visit. For his sake, I hope they are prompt and straight forward about his status. If he's not able to visit UF, he should be given adequate time to schedule a visit elsewhere. Hope this is just a rumor. I like this kid a lot. Coach Young has been working him since last February, if not longer. I think Elijah wants to be a Gator. Let's hope he gets to come in on his visit and make his commitment then.

I think we can scratch Alexander. Our best chance is probably with Ramsey.

Maybe you didn't read correctly. It's official when Spivey says it is. Spivey has spoken. Issue is closed.

Just asked in another thread, but what happened here? Is this his decision, our coaches' or our admissions people? Who do we get instead?

Apparently Grades last semester.
Every Florida State University System (SUS) school has the option of granting an exception to any student they think can perform, but who lacks one of the SUS minimal prerequisites for admission, and the SUS minimums are about the most difficult among state schools anywhere in the nation.
Research we have conducted at USF over the years shows that students admitted as exceptions tend to do as well as or better Academically than those who meet all the requirements.
Despite this, UF's Insane Admissions Office appears to absolutely hate to grant any exceptions. It is almost beyond my comprehension, because when I used to have access to the entire SUS's Admissions files back in the 1990s, almost every school admitted students as exceptions, some with Grade Point Averages (GPA) from high school of below 1.0. Frequently such were athletes in various sports, or talented musicians, or some such.
Anyway, Daniel ran afoul UF's Admissions Office as so very many quality athletes and people have in the past.

Based on a conversation I had today from someone somewhat close to the situation, Robert may not be a stretch after all. At the very least, I don't think the coaches are going into it with a "try our best and see what happens" approach. Sounds like they are going to really push hard when it comes to making this young man a priority. IMO they would not allocate their time and resources like that if they thought it was too much of a long shot.

I saw him several weeks ago, on one of the recruiting shows. He named us, along with LSU, Bama, Ole Miss and Clemson as "up there" on his list of schools. That was the first and only time I heard us mentioned, until this visit talk. It surprised me at the time, and when I didn't hear anything else, I just blew it off. But apparently he does have a serious interest.
Maybe, he is one of those silent commits that we always hear about, that the coaches tell to keep it quiet.

If that research was done with a sampling of USF students, I'm not surprised. That's an entirely different academic setting. They do a great job taking B and C students and turning them into scholars and then professionals, but the academic rigor is not the same as it is at UF. It's much harder for UF to assimilate students in the classroom coming in with low C averages and ACT scores below 20.

I know that we have some good DE/Buck prospects in this class, but only one that's likely to stay outside. Seems like we're in a tight spot right now, having to give up on Daniel and trying to catch up with equally talented players we haven't been recruiting all year. I think there's a good chance that we are done at DE and Buck. We have five LBs, I'm sure one or more of them can get a look at the Buck position. One of Riles and Ivie can stay at DE, especially if we get another DT.
