Hopefully 6-3! A great conference! Funny, to me 2 shoe-ins were UF over Lville & Miss St over Northwestern...you never know...

I had miss st as a loss when the bowls became official. They were terrible once their schedule picked up mid season. Us and LSU were the shoe ins...guess that's why the game is played on the field.

Northwestern wasn't terrible. They beat Vandy badly early in the season which didn't seem like a big deal at the time but maybe it was.

For some reason, I had faith in Miss St being really pumped up for the bowl game. LSU at least had a very close game against a good Clemson team. Clearly UF's performance blindsided everyone.

Point is, SEC still a winning record.

In our case the game was played on the field by only one team; the other team decided not to show up.

alabama can help make the gator loss somewhat forgetable. if bama loses, then two loses in two bcs games will give the haters alot of ammo

Mississippi State wasn't a shoo-in. I thought they were the most likely of all the SEC teams to lose their bowl game. They clearly were on a down-trend, having lost 5 of their last 6 games, and there was no reason to think they'd reverse that trend against a pretty decent Northwestern team.

I picked against Miss State, LSU, and Georgia. I figured coaching would get the last two, and one did. Picked UF with full confidence though. And I've got Bama although I think there will be more scoring than most anticipate.

Bowl games aren't great barometers though. It's often which team is most excited to be there. Boise over Oklahoma and Utah over Bama aren't too shocking. If it was a playoff format it would be different. Half of these SEC teams go in disappointed because they just recently got knocked out of natty competition. And they often play against teams that are playing the biggest game ever for them.

I almost always pick Kentucky in bowls (Music City, usually.) When they make one it's one of the program's most exciting moments. Ever. They come out for blood. They lost the last two but won three straight before that including one over FSU. The next time they make one they'll show up. Bama, LSU, UF--they may very well mail it in if it's not for all the marbles.

How are the other conferences faring?

In my assessment looking at the record is only a part of the equation. A more important question is: how many high quality bowl wins does a conference have? I'd be shocked if any conference is even close.

Unfortunately we are the SEC's big black eye this year.

After Bama beats nd the SEC will be 6-3. That's 2 more wins than the next closest conferences. SEC continues its streak and is still the premiere conference. Nobody will care about the Sugar Bowl after Monday night

I agree. I thought Mississippi State and LSU were the two most likely SEC teams to lose bowl games. I thought we were the least likely.

IMHO we are by far the biggest surprise (and disappointment to SEC fans) of the "bowl season." The idea that an SEC team ranked 3rd in the nation, a team that came within a fumble of very possibly playing in the NC game, would not just lose but would get blown out by an unranked Big East team was almost beyond my comprehension.

At least we accomplished one thing. We gave a whole new meaning to the term "that's why they play the games."
