Hurricane Sandy Bill Loaded With Pork
What did Rahm Emanuel say? Never let a crisis go to waste. Leave it to the Democrats to take advantage of a disaster.

Offhand I'd say this is on voters more than congressmen.

The Hurricane Sandy relief bill as crafted by Senate Porkocrats is 85% pork. Only one dollar in six would actually go to the victims of the hurricane.

story linked in the OP doesn't have any specifics. It's just a guy from the American Majority Action saying it.
Any specifics?

"The requested funding would be used to provide both immediate economic relief to the region's struggling groundfish industry, and to make targeted investments that will allow the fleet to survive and become more sustainable in the years ahead," said Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins in a press release touting the funding.

The measure also included $2 million to repair certain Smithsonian buildings in the greater D.C. area and $4 million to repair sand dunes near Kennedy Space Center in Florida due to Sandy-related damage, according to the spending request sent to Congress by the White House.
The White House request and Senate bill also included $23 million for planting trees to limit future flood damage and $41 million on military base repair primarily in New Jersey and Virginia, but also Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
A Democratic Senate aide familiar with the bill says the portion that Issa and others are complaining about may not be Sandy related, but are disaster related and make up a small fraction of the bill's overall cost.

Yeah, it's fine to point out the porkiness, but let's not pretend this is an R or D issue.

Yes, kind of like the Republicans who swooped in like vultures to take advantage of the crisis after the 9/11 scam.
This mindset is not restricted to one party, people. It's how things work in BrainWashington, D.C. (District of Criminals).

And what mindset writes something like this without irony?

That information is incorrect, that $150M for ground fisherman was not for the Northeast. It was a measure that proposed $150 million for the declared fisheries disasters in Alaska, New England and the Gulf of Mexico

You're correct, those Republicans in the Senate that voted for this are equally to blame

From Murkowski's website:
Quote:
Murkowski’s Committee Work Helps Bring Relief to Alaska for Tsunami Debris, Salmon Disaster
Senator’s Advocacy on Appropriations Committee Gets Funds DirectedWASHINGTON, D.C. – As the United States Senate takes efforts to aid states impacted by Hurricane Sandy and other recent disasters nationwide, Senator Lisa Murkowski – a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee – was able to address a number of Alaska-specific concerns stemming from this season’s salmon shortfall and the rising threat of debris from last year’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The Senate Appropriations Committee today released a Hurricane Sandy Supplemental Funding bill, including:
$150 million dollars in fishery disaster relief, to be shared among multiple states and
$56 million for marine debris efforts in several states.
“I believe the future destruction of the slow-motion threat posed by tsunami debris can be lessened through more action now. That’s why I asked the Appropriations Committee Chairs, Senators Inouye and Cochran for $20 million in debris cleanup on Monday (letter attached) and look forward to making our case to NOAA to ensure a robust portion of this funding is used to protect our shores from tsunami debris,” said Murkowski. “Alaska’s Chinook fisheries were declared a disaster exactly three months ago, but no funds have been appropriated to help communities and businesses impacted yet. This bill will go a long way in providing federal resources to Alaskans who suffered economically because of this year’s low King Salmon run get back on their feet.”

Just finished watching Sen. Shumer (D) New York commenting on the Sandy bill. Quote: "The Democrats crafted a good strong bill and the House should have passed it." Shumer is giving Senate Democrats credit for "crafting" the bill. I guess he should know. The Republican Senators who tucked their pork into this pig can take their share of the blame. We are "represented" by a bunch of leeches.

So what should the Government be buying for the folks impacted by the hurricane ?
Is it straight giveaways, or loans to rebuild for the needy ?
If giveaways, why ?

storm damage in NY with all those voters and powerful members of congress---taxpayers write a blank check to cuomo and bloomberg for 100% of any "damage", to pass out all those repair billions to powerful friends, family and contributors. The fraud never ends.
