He told me after the game that he was fine. He was on crutches as a precautionary measure.

Never did like using starters/stars on kickoff returns, ever since I saw that injury to Quezzy Green in the Nebraska debacle.

Speaking of the play that result in Purifoy's injury, there is a serious double standard here that really pisses me off. He took a helmet to the thigh. No penalty. Not even a thought or a debate or a comment about the penalty. Now I agree the player making the tackle had absolutely no ill intention, and was flying down the field trying to make a tackle so that he can't control exactly what part of his body hits another quickly moving player.

But compare this to the hit by Bostic on the the Louisville QB very early in the game. Same thing. Bostic is flying toward a quickly moving player. He has no ill intention in terms of hitting with the head. He lead with the head no more, and maybe less, than the Louisville player who hit Purifoy. The defensive player is just doing his job. In this instance, however, against a QB, it is a 15 yard penalty.

This is a double standard which is not fair. I understand the need to protect quarterbacks, but the penalties have gone too far so that defensive players rushing the QB cannot actually play football anymore or they will be hit with a penalty.

If they are truly late, flag them. If they intentionally lead with the head, flag them. But let the defenders play football when rushing the QB just as every other defender gets to play football when tackling a receiver or a return man or a running back.

Yeah.............What Friendly said. This has always been my contention. When a RB/WR/Returner/QB whatever makes a slight move while a defender is about to tackle them, this slight change may result in the defender hitting the ball carrier with their helmet, which may not have been the defenders intention but non the less it occurs. I understand for the zebras on the field watching this in real time it is difficult to determine if the tackler intended to hit with his helmet, but a consistant calling of this needs to occur by the zebras.
