Totally agree that the competitor in you should go all out, all the time. That is how my family played, and how I will teach the kids. But, it just doesn't happen that way
By the way you can ban me if you want for telling it how I see it, but if this team had half the attitude about effort and what's important as most of the posters on this thread have then its no wonder they lost.
Look, (some of) you guys can try to over think it if you want but its a fact that lower ranked teams beat better teams A LOT in bowl games. Can you explain that? It's not just Florida, look at LSU losing to Clemson who shouldn't be in the same convo. They even did it without Sammy Watkins. How did Utah beat Bama? How did Boise beat Oklahoma? This doesn't happen if there are real stakes to play for.
The Sugar bowl is just an irrelevant trophy that goes in the back of your trophy case behind the SECCG and BCSCG trophies.
Louisville will probably create a shrine for the Sugar bowl trophy and bring it around to all the walmarts within 100 square miles from UofL.

Last year, they were playing to try to avoid having the first losing season in 30 years. That's a lot of motivation.
This year it was to be another UF team that won 12 games. There's a big difference there.
Once again if losing is irrelevant than why even play the game? Its called pride and I would hope at least some people still have that. I just have a different opinion. If its not worth giving your all then why give anything? I just didn't see all of what they had to give by a long shot.
Maybe I'm just being naive here but I don't think guys should have to think up reasons as to why they should play their hardest...they should play their hardest for themselves, coaches, family, friends, and school, and also to win the game...thats just part of being a college athlete...
But I did see all of what Louisville had to give and I have to say that I enjoyed watching them play with that passion and fire even though they were kicking Florida's ass for the most part. It was painful but it was righteous also.

You aren't answering the question, why did Oklahoma and Alabama lose? Why did we lose to Michigan in 08? Why do lower ranked teams beat higher ranked teams in bowl games?

It's football...any given Sunday...or Saturday...or Wednesday...etc...

Exactly, and the Sugar bowl really doesn't mean anything.
Like I said, this Sugar bowl trophy would have gone behind our Natty's and SECCG trophies. Maybe even in a closet somewhere. Louisville will be parading it around Walmart.

Because its a game and something called probability. Higher ranked teams do not win 100% of the time, bowl games or not. It's math. If you give each dog in these terrible BCS matchups a 20% chance at winning, then one should win out of 5. And remember these teams aren't chopped liver. Louisville did win a conference. We should beat them, but to act like they'd never beat us with equal motivation is naive

I think he expects the games to unfold like they do on a video monitor when the computer makes decisions based on player ratings and there is no human element whatsoever.
Why did we beat the living hell out of a South Carolina team that looked pretty damn tough yesterday? And then look like hell against a team that South Carolina laid waste to a few weeks before.
It's human beings playing a game and sometimes humans don't do what you expect them too, good or bad.
This Louisville team is very good. And they are VERY well coached.
That's the thing I noticed too. Strong is a VERY good coach. The team was ready to play and they executed damn well. Teddy Bridgewater is a stud. We didn't take him versy seriously when we recruited him. Our mistake.

So what? Because its a bigger game for on programs history doesn't mean the players will play harder.
Christ this isn't the pro bowl.
What players played below their norm? If its so obvious players didn't try then point them out. I don't see a single player that underperformed his norm. Our bad players were bad, and made more costly bad plays. But that's not lack of effort...that's being bad.
This makes what the basketball team did by going back to back even more amazing..becasue the basketball tourney is even more of a crapshoot and unpredictable than CFB is...

Why did we lose to UGA this year?
Easy, 6 turnovers and we still had a chance to win. We gave Louisville 2 easy TD's and still had a chance to win (albeit, very low chance). Look, my wife will tell you how I get when we lose a game that means something. She leaves the house during games sometimes and if we lose, she knows not to talk to me. This game simply doesn't mean anything. I'm not a fan of bowl games unless its called the BCSCG. I would have liked to win but losing means absolutely nothing to me.
I was physically sick for a week when we lost to UGA. All day little things irrelevant to football reminded me of the loss and it gave me the stink face. Losing to FSU last year did the same thing. If we had lost to them this season, effectively ending our title hopes, I would have been on suicide watch. This was just a bowl game though, it really means nothing. Sorry, it just doesn't.
