MY Xmas present to you guys
It's not a great one but maybe someone will enjoy it. It's a link. You can watch free movies that are pretty new. I watched Battleship and The Dictator last night, both pretty good movies, I though. Anyways, Merry Christmas.

Sorry to be the Grinch, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but this appears to link to illegal file sharing sites.
In addition to violating copyrights, you stand a very good change of picking up nasty viruses and spyware from these websites.
Safe computing to all!!

Hey Grinch,
It's NOT a file sharing site!
It's a free streaming site so no copyright violation, right? I mean, if I watch something that someone else shouldn't be showing (e.g. a walmart employee inadvertently violates copyright by showing Cinderella in the electronics department) does that mean I am a violator? Is it criminal or civil? Or both?
Watching streaming videos online doesn't violate copyright laws, just like watching Cinderella at Walmart wouldn't.
And, Grinch, there's no fear of viruses either!!!
But I digress, because I have a Christmas gift too for all my Gator fan friends!!

Free, no copyright violation for watching, and no viruses!!!
Enjoy!

This is a new angle to me so I researched it a bit. You are correct that the person viewing streaming videos does not directly violate copyright. However, the person is viewing material that was illegally copied. Not everything that is legal is right.
From the pertinent court decision:
Quote:
|
As long as the [myVidster] visitor makes no copy of the copyrighted video that he is watching, he is not violating the copyright owner’s exclusive right, conferred by the Copyright Act, “to reproduce the copyrighted work in copies” and “distribute copies ... of the copyrighted work to the public.” His bypassing Flava’s pay wall by viewing the uploaded copy is equivalent to stealing a copyrighted book from a bookstore and reading it. That is a bad thing to do (in either case) but it is not copyright infringement. The infringer is the customer of Flava who copied Flava’s copyrighted video by uploading it to the Internet
|
Basically, you are viewing material that is free to you because it is stolen. The Walmart example may be inadvertent distribution. Deliberately streaming these videos is anything but inadvertent...it it very intentional.
The judge himself says, "equivalent to stealing a book...a bad thing to do...but not copyright infringement". He also called on Congress to update such laws for the digital communication age.
And I found this as the first listed comment below one of the movies on Fastpass:
Quote:
The one from travoltajr on Musicshare tried to upload a virus to my
computer when I tried to watch the movie. Beware of travoltajr for virus
uploads.

You can all make your own decisions...just make informed ones.

One more quote from the decision:
Quote:
|
“Someone who uses one of those addresses to bypass Flava’s pay wall and watch a copyrighted video for free is no more a copyright infringer than if he had snuck into a movie theater and watched a copy-righted movie without buying a ticket,” wrote Posner. “The facilitator of conduct that doesn’t infringe copyright is not a contributory infringer.”
|
So the decision is interesting in its narrowness. It was only addressing the copyright violation issue. However, both his example of stealing a library book and of sneaking into a movie theater to see a film are both simple theft.

strange that thefirstrow has a '.eu' extension...wonder if it has anything to do with being outside the reach of US laws.

I don't care about copyright but you described Battleship as a pretty good movie, which makes me question your judgment.

No, it wasn't even "ok." It was horrible. You should feel bad for suggesting otherwise.

You're right. I had been drinking when I saw it. That sometimes makes things appear better then what they really are. But you wouldn't know anything about that, would you...
