Actually, that's not entirely correct. But then, you've never had a firm grasp on history.

*sighs* You're not a big fan of irony, are you ? Well, maybe you are. You believe the textbooks.
The Emancipation Proclamation did not free a single enslaved black.

Much theatrical art has a natural tendency to illuminate reality, for good or bad. I don't think it would be hypocritical to play Hamlet and oppose killing kings.

Not a good parallel. Killing anyone is illegal and we're not talking a classic work like Hamlet. We're talking about a culture of violence in Hollywood movies - most of which should never be confused with true works of art - and then the very actors who willingly participate in the violence portrayed come out with a video against gun violence. That is hypocrisy in my book.
If they are really concerned then they will pass on these roles.
There is evidence it does matter.

Not to say that there might be some cognitive dissonance, but I don't think its quite that simple. I mean, lots of people think corporations are evil, but still work for them and even perhaps think that theirs is exceptional in its benevolance, and unlike other ones.

I don't care what movies they make. Just don't act violent in violent movies then make a self-serving video coming out against guns.

They're making money off of violence with guns. They use them in movies to make their living, and you don't see anything wrong with that?

I'm not much of movie goer but, strictly speaking, I don't think they are hypocrites, at least not in this respect. Keep in mind, the point of gun control is that only the government and hardened criminals should have guns. How often do you see a civilian gun owner do anything useful with a gun, in a movie? The gun-toting hero is almost always ex-military, military, cop or ex-cop.
