Question Thoughts on Tebow to Jags?

No doubt the guy is one of the greatest to ever play college football, but he hasn't been as successful in the NFL. He got Denver to the playoffs, but I would say they were not a danger to win the Super Bowl. He has struggled in NY, but is this because he has not gotten a real chance to get consistent playing time? I have always liked the guy, not only as a player who just finds a way to win, but as a good Christian example and role model. I know everyone here wants to see him on the team and for him to be successful, but do you guys really see him doing that on the Jags?

He's never really been given a shot and in his limited time he's done well. I think it's probably unfair to say "hasn't been as successful" because he hasn't gotten the opportunities.

I hope he doesn't go to the Jags. He'll never get a shot there.

He needs a GOOOD coach to help him. Jax doesn't have a GOOOD coach.

Steve Young had Bill Walsh. That's what Tebow needs.

At this point, I don't think Tim cares where he goes as long as he can play.

Mullarkey is old school offense, doubt Tim can be a good fit.

He was successful in Denver despite the poor situations he found himself in each game due mainly to bad play-calling. If he gets a legitimate shot and is in an offense that maximizes his skill-set, I think he does well. The offenses that have been developed around RGIII, Cam Newton etc. need to be built around Tebow. I think that Jacksonville actually has the players around Tim to make him successful if the right offense is installed. Let a team have to defend MJD or Tebow in a pistol read, and have Blackmon in year 2 and Cecil Shorts, and M. Lewis back as receivers, and Tim is actually in a pretty good situation for his skill-set offensively so long as the line blocks well. Coaches have to put in the right offense though.

Mike

If it's the Jags or nowhere then fine. But it would be nice to see him go to a better team than the 2-14 Jags.

he needs to 'come home'.
i think the jags would alter their offense for Tim or install a meaningful/beneficial package that fits his skill set. foolish not to (jets).

But the Jags just fired their GM and it wouldn't surprise me if Khan used this opportunity to make sure the new GM is "Tebow friendly". I'll be surprised if the draft rolls around and Tim is not in a Jags uniform by that point...

The franchise that is in a town that is not supposed to be an NFL town, but doesn't get blackouts; owned by an owner that beat the odds and became wildly wealthy by overachieving; led by a quarterback that is not supposed to be an NFL quarterback, but doesn't do anything but "win." I'd say its the perfect fit .

Right now the Jags are way more than a player away from being "in danger to win the Superbowl". I don't think anyone can do that.
But do I think Tim can win more than 2 games for the Jags? Create some excitement? Sell some tickets? Yes, why not? He's done it before.

I like your thinking, Mike...pile up incongruencies and develop a new game. SOS won by basically "being where they ain't"; not working harder, but by doing it differently. Give the Jags a fully committed Tebow-directed team and a season like Denver had in 2011 would fill seats for years.

Hire Kyle Shanahan and trade a 4th for Harvin also. Harvin's situation in Minny is about to get ugly.

Unlike most people, I think Tebow has been given the opportunities but for whatever reason hasn't been able to capitalize.

Tebow has been brought in behind 2 of the absolute worst QBs in the NFL, and for whatever reason, and I presume it's what coaches see in practice, Tebow has not been able to take the job from them.

Unfortunately, I think the thing that makes Tebow special, which is his leadership and his ability to make those around him better, is something they just aren't able to simulate in practice.

I suspect Tebow is a little bit like Brett Favre, where he looks bad in practice, but is different with a game on the line.

I really don't think Tebow going to Jax will be a good fit either.

Why? There will be a brand new GM, with a fairly high probability with a new HC as well -- he could come to a program and start fresh where nothing is established, how could it really be any better anywhere else? Tim's ready to start right now -- and if he's not, he never will be. All this talk about him sitting for a couple years just isn't going to work in my opinion -- Tebow isn't a "journeyman"-QB. He's not a Chad Henne or a Kyle Orton, who are essentially career backups. What he did in Denver was enough for me to see that with a good Defense, a solid running game, and a couple of capable receivers -- Tebow can take a team to the playoffs with a chance at a Superbowl, and that's really all you can ask for.

The new GM will decide to keep Mularkey or not. I think he should get fired, Gator or not. Del Rio was never 2-14. Jags need a lot more than Tebow though. I do like the potential of Tim with Blackmon and Shorts. I still don't think Jax is the best 'fit' for Tim. If a new coach can use him like RGIII, Kaepernick, or Russell Wilson then I am sure it will have more success than 2-14. Lots of coaches and GMs getting canned, so who knows where a guy who will want Tebow could be. I said before I think Pittsburgh is a good place. N.E. could deal Mallett and get Tim with Josh McDaniels who I think is a good QB coach.
For those saying Tim has not proven himself, that's BS. He has a winning record as a starter. He made the most of his chance in Denver, the only chance he has had. So what if he lands as a backup next season. Look how many solid QBs were nothing for their first few years, then got the right situation and succeeded.

I don't understand what you mean. Tebow has been in the NFL for 3 years. In year 1 he sat in Denver and then his coach was fired. In year 2 he was brought in and took a 1-4 team to the playoffs and a playoff victory over the Steelers. In year 3 he had Rex Ryan as a coach.

As far as I see it the sole opportunity he was given he did capitalize -- taking his team to the playoffs and earning a playoff victory. What opportunities did he fail to capitalize on? Would echo the thought of loving to see Tim run a Kyle Shanahan offense like the one up in DC -- he does not have the athleticism of RGIII but has more power, certainly. Would be fun to watch.
