Default The two 2014 QB's rated higher than Will Grier highlights

In the Will Grier thread there was a discussion on could Florida have gotten a "5 star" and who were the higher ranked QB's?

Most people are happy Will Grier is a Gator, but since its the dead period I figured we might as well look at the others.

As of now the two QB's rated higher than Grier are Keller Chryst & Caleb Henderson

Keller Chryst is a 5 star prospect from Cali. Keller's father is QB coach for the 49'ers and his uncle is the head coach at Pitt. At this moment Keller holds scholarship offers from USC Stanford and Pitt. What's interesting is Keller grew up in North Carolina and he is intrigued by the SEC. He says he will visit Georgia Alabama and maybe Florida this summer. While Florida already has their QB for 2014 it might be hard to not pursue him since he has interest. Alabama is taking three QB's this year and Georgia is taking one so if he does decided to go to the SEC Georgia could be his landing spot.

Here are Keller's sophomore highlights below. I watched his Junior highlights before his school put them on private he did improve but you will get a good understanding of what he can do from is sophomore film.

Caleb Henderson I don't know too much about besides he would like an offer from Urban. It seems most of the top 10 QB's in the class of 2014 want an offer from Urban but Urban has his eyes on Clemson commit Deshaun Watson. Caleb's film is impressive and it might remind people of someone.

that henderson kid has got good size, and a cannon for an arm, reminds me a little of a certain jets qb.

Henderson needs more zip on the ball, but def can throw it down field. Looks like a talent rich 14 qb class

I get the original posters point but honestly these ratings are very, very, very subjective. Just because someone is listed as 4-star, 5-star etc.. it's just an educated guess. Once they hit campus it means nothing. The coaches know what they have with the person, player and I trust them. Don't worry about 5-star guys you think are better because they probably aren't.

Examples of highly rated QB-'s Bobby Sablehouse, Brock Berlin
not so highly rated: Shane Matthews, Rex Grossman

Sure, some work out: Danny Weurffel, Chris Leak

Good job picking one player that was a one star. Tell us four more without doing an internet search...

I don't think that's a fair criticism. Can you name how many stars all of the above average players had coming out of high school?

His point, or what I took from his post, is that recruiting stars don't always equate to college or NFL success, which I think pretty much everyone can agree with.

Do more 4 & 5 star guys end up playing and starring on Sundays? Probably. I don't know the exact statistics, but I think we all get his point.

He backs up his point by using anecdotal evidence. That is anything but conclusive. Statistical evidence shows the more stars the higher probability of being a better player. It's been talked about on shown on this site numerous times over the years.

Obviously no system is right 100% of the time. That doesn't take away from the merits of a ranking system.

Just seemed like you were taking a shot at the guy for citing a relevant example of where the system can be flawed.

Obviously this system isn't 100% right at all...Just this year how can the gators be ranked number 1(ESPN) 6 (scout) and 4 (rivals). How can there be that much of a disparity. The rankings are 100% subjective basically making them irrelevant. These rankings don't mean a whole lot which was my original point. Statistical evidence also proves #1 recruiting classes don't equal championships.... and isn't that the ultimate goal? You're right it was only one example but I thought it proved my point. Johnny Manziel was also only a 3 star...hes done pretty well so far, theres two examples

Grier is better than both of those guys, IMHO. I hope this is the last thread dedicated to the fainting goats and their insecurities about Grier.

Grier is the man..... and we have him.

QB is one of the harder positions to project success from the HS level to college. In other positions, you can usually see the elite prospects and their pure athleticism and skill jump out at you on tape.

QBs in HS are playing in such varying offensive systems and with such varying talent level around them that it's hard to judge.

Usually the guys that top the recruiting rankings are guys that either play for powerhouse HS programs or have the benefit of professional coaching at an early age that refine their mechanics - examples are Jimmy Clausen and Matt Barkley.

You can tell Henderson has a coach and Keller's dad is a coach in the NFL. Of course Griers dad played QB as well. I wonder if Pease is going to go after Keller.

Addressing the original post, who ranks these players? The star system is a gimmick to sell subscriptions.

Usually the guys that top the recruiting rankings are guys that either play for powerhouse HS programs or have the benefit of professional coaching at an early age that refine their mechanics - examples are Jimmy Clausen and Matt Barkley.
Let's not forget that Grier plays for a very small high school and against similar competition, though he is a coach's son.

Good point Strange, at the end of the day Grier is still making some big time throws no matter what the competitions is. I will note there is no way Grier will be running around and over people like he does in high school in the SEC.
