What's Mark Wise's Background (color analyst for Gators)?
I enjoy Mark Wise's perspective on the game; he looks at things from the coach's perspective pretty well and communicates it in terms i can understand - for radio, that's pretty good. at least i can visualize what he's saying.
I know:
he's Mary Wise's husband.
he was a coach before? for who? what is his coaching background?
he grew up in lexington and grew up a wildcat fan - and still is, right? but i think he's a top-level gator fan now too. my memory of him calling gator vs UK games, sounds like he's very excited for the gators to do well.
does he post to gator country? is he "coach sayre"? or is that someone else?
what else do you know about him?

No comment on his radio performance but he has been consistently horrible on tv as a color man. I don't think anyone has been as consistently bad as him for gator tv hoops broadcasts. I think that says a lot considering the bar is not very high and you have guys like jimmy dykes doing games. He is so bad I feel bad for him as he should realize his obvious shortcomings and stick to radio.

Can't comment on his TV broadcasts, but I love the guy on the radio with Mick - they seem to have great chemistry and he provides some very insightful commentary...

I think he does a great job on the radio broadcasts. I think he does fine on TV as well when he just focuses on the game and doesn't try to get too flashy. Sometimes he gets too Dickie V'ish on TV.

I've already explained his tv work. You try to defend him but I'm the same breath cut him down. I think that says it all.

I hope I am mistaken, but didn't Mark do through a cancer scare several years ago?
As for me, I thoroughly enjoy his game color with Mick. I did see him on TV in another venue (which I forget) and he did seem to force himself. I believe radio is his calling.

The bar is very low and will only get lower for color analysts.
It's very difficult to learn anything from these people. I find that Bob Knight and a select few former coaches (who also happened to be good teachers) provide anything worthwhile in this role.

Yes he had a cancer scare and that should have no
Impact on rating his work on tv.

Watching the K state game, I was thinking I'd much rather here Wise than Fran Frascilla.

It's amazing how low the bar is for color analysts. Yes Fran was bad. Yes wise is usually much worse.

The best thing about Mark is his understanding of what it is Billy is looking for on the court. He does an excellent job of pointing those things out in simple way. He also doesn't preach nor does he make over the top comments, he let's the game and Mick do the bulk of the work and jumps in when needed and not to hear himself talk. Makes him easy to listen to.

Possibly true for radio. Far from true for tv

I agree that the bar is really low and will probably go lower; however, I find Knight to be the most boring, disconnected man ever on color. He knows the game but messes up any broadcast with his dry drivel and his agenda driven views.
