Folks, as far as I'm concerned, we won that game by 8 to 10 points.

Arizona got world class home cookin'. The game shouldn't have even been close at the end.

We're still a FF team.

We have a ways to go before I book tickets to Atlanta. I think we have plenty of room for improve, especially executing our offense.

with all the adversity on the court we only lost by 1 on a made circus shot. clean up the mistakes a bit (refs), this game is a blow out.

Officials should be required to have a press conference after each game where they explain their calls, just like coaches do. There's no accountability for refs, they can call a game as one-sided as this & have to answer to no one.

I respect your post and your objectivity. Takes a lot of class and integrity to be so honest.

One point of contention though: the refs aren't supposed to pile on the adversity for the visiting team or to pander to a home crowd--that isn't their job. Their jobs are to monitor the game and ensure fair play. Frankly, its a credit to the coaches and the players to maintain their composure and their cool in the face of such blatantly unprofessional conduct by the people who are supposed to be paid professionals.

I like reading reading what opposing fans say after the game, and Arizona thinks they came terrible officiating to win that game. They missed a few travels on us and a Rosario push of, but other than that, I don't recall Florida getting any favorable calls.

Funny stuff.

This was a good loss and it will sting for a while. The guys will learn a great deal from the waning seconds.

Here's a question? Why is it that in almost every game that comes down to the last second, refs put the whistles away and "let them play". A blind man could see the AZ defender put a knee out to send Mike flying. He may not make his FTs, but I have always found this strange? A foul should be a foul regardless and it makes no sense to me. Not just for this game but almost every other? Thoughts? Why is last possession different when it comes to fouls?

Referees are human. And even the best make mistakes, get caught up in the moment, and are swayed by 14,000 fans. Seen it many times in McKale, just as UK fans have seen in Rupp, Duke fans in Cameron, etc...

From Article 3 of the NCAA rulebook, regarding technical fouls:
Quote:
c. (Men) CLASS A and CLASS B technical fouls. A CLASS A technical
foul involves unsportsmanlike conduct or behavior by a player, substitute,
coach or bench personnel. A CLASS B technical foul is an infraction of
the rules that neither involves contact with an opponent nor causes contact
with an opponent and falls below the limit of an unsportsmanlike act.
Examples of CLASS A and CLASS B technical fouls shall include:
1. Unsportsmanlike conduct; using profanity, vulgarity, taunting, baiting
(CLASS A);
2. Hanging on the ring, except when doing so to prevent an injury
(CLASS B).

The LOSS in a nutshell. 6 point lead--poof...
Won't be the last road loss if we can't fix the inbounds pass problem.
Good teams play through questionable officiating. Basketball officiating is a different animal as MANY, MANY calls can legitimatly go either way, e.g. block/charge, jump ball, body foul, hand or wrist and on & on...

I didn't think the refs were good, and favored the wildcats, but not by nearly as much as many of you are suggesting. There was one more call against UF than against Zona. I'm guessing Zona fouled 2 or 3 times trying to catch up. Also worth pointing out the Zona's fouls meant they lost their best interior player for the crunch-time part of the game. I don't think, and have consistently not thought this, that the Gators play a style that lends itself as well to drawing foul shots as some other teams do. I think there were missed calls both ways and were actually two times I remember the announcers suggesting Florida got the benefit of a no-call. BUT, overall I'm in agreement that the passionate home court got the advantage - just not by some absolutely obscene, unheard of margin.

I definitely agree that Florida is the better team. With those same refs, you guys beat them on their home court more times than not. This is despite the fact that you guys were MUCH hotter from 3 (10 of 18) compared with their 7 of 20. It took two utter meltdowns, one at the end of each half, for them to have a chance.

I'm also in favor of moving Boynton off the point for the same reason I'm in favor of him not playing 40 minutes. It takes a physical toll on him and affects his shooting. Let Wilkebin's finger heal and move him back to point. Move Kenny back off the ball and keep him fresher. I don't think he's done a bad job at the point, but doesn't exactly look like one of those point guards that gets the ball up the floor with ease against pressure. He was pounding it so hard against Zona I wouldn't doubt there being indentations left on the playing surface.

Thats my take at least. The game really doesn't mean much. If you guys take care of business you're still in position for a 1 seed. I know many of you are currently freaking out about what a weak SEC means for your seed - well stop freaking out. If the SEC is really that weak (which it looks to be), Florida will cut through it with ease and land a 1 seed. Keep in mind, when your goal is a final four, the region you end up in matters more than your specific seed IMO. You guys were a 7 seed last year but, again IMO, had a more manageable road to the final four than several 1 and 2 seeds ended up with.

Actually, the big guy having limited minutes and fouling out helped AZ because his replacement is better...he made a couple of huge baskets down the stretch for them when the shot clock was low. The starter did not hurt us at all...he was a liability for them.

Had a minor medical emergency with my mom last night and totally forgot about the game.

A one-point loss on the road across the country against a very good opponent isn;t something that will keep me up at nights anyway.

We have a great team that has a good chance of making the title game this year. One loss early in the season doesn't spell the end of the season.

This team needs to learn how to close out. Freaking gave it to them on a gold platter. Final 4 potential exist but our players have to keep playing defense and learn ball control offense when you have a 10 point lead. Discipline

This team gave a clinic on how to lose a game in the last minute. They should learn from this.

I'd much rather have this experience in December, than during the third week in March.

Wonder if we will ever see a thread started in ANY sport titled "The Refs Won The Game For Us". Get over it people. Refs didn't lose or blow squat. We had some mental and physical lapses in a tough environment. Team played great for 90% of the game, so we have to work on the other 10%. Got 3 mos. to do it. Stop crying.
