Not bitchin', not even complaining or whining a little. Just asking.
How many consensus 5 star players are out there and who's gettin' 'em?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know "stars don't matter" and we all "trust our coaches" (which we do) but I'm still curious. We have the #1, top rated, can't beat it with a stick, recruiting class in all the land, yet only one of these future Gators is rated 5 stars (least on the rating site I looked at).
What gives?

I've wondered the same thing. It appears that there aren't many five stars, and USC has 5 or 6 of them.

Normally I know, and better yet care, but not this year because I love the class that we've recruited. But there are quite a few that are still un-committed to no certain teams.

It does look like this class is a little lighter on pure star power than some previous units. But the important thing is that we're filling needs, and not with also-rans. If we're not getting the true superstars (save Hargreaves), we are getting a lot of highly rated guys at positions of dire need.
Last year's class, for example, had some excellent high-end talent but was top-heavy. We're balancing it a bit this year.

According to ESPN's 150 list, there are only nine 5 star players this year.
Kelvin Taylor is the 15th rated player overall, but only a four star.

For rivals, we have 4 guys at a 6.0/6.1 (cusp of 5 star), and one guy at a 5 star. That's really good.

It's strange... he's there #1 RB but still not a 5 star? It seems like if you're the best guy in the nation at your position, you should get the highest star ranking possible.

Wow! That is amazing on both fronts. No way those lists match-up, so if ESPN has only 9 on it's list, there may in fact only be 3 or 4 or 5 concensus 5 star guys nationwide. If true, that's pretty amazing (in my mind at least). It also kinda explains why we might only have one.
Thanks

According to ESPN's list, we have a shot at Alexander and Adams...and maybe the slightest of chances with Tunsil. If we could get just one of those (hoping for Adams) we'd be in really good shape.

The lack of 5 stars this year would lead you to believe that no one else is loading up with them either I suppose.

USC has a bunch, but USC easily collects the California 5 star guys since Carroll turned the program around. We never play them, and they don't recruit against us too often (Agholor being a big exception but he was recruited by FSU, OU, Notre Dame, and us.) They did seem to steal a DB out from under FSU's own Tallahassee area for like a 3 or 4 year stretch stretch though.

We have also seen a lot of highly rated guys just not live up to their potential at UF and even after they transfered they still didn't do anything. You can't tell me that U$C $till i$n't pulling their B$ in recruiting.

Yes you did stop our offense very well while there but yes I was holding a grudge. From the day you got here and every time I hear you speak and your excitement about coaching our Gators, working your tale off and being a straight shooter, you are now one of my all time favorite coaches. Thanks coach.

Depends on where you're looking for your stars. Will likes to make a decision based on the entire mold of the athlete, not just his ability on the field. If the sites/rankings reflected that, we'd be full of 5 stars.

SC is loaded with 5 star players. They had 75 ship players compared to 77 ship players with UF in 12. Which team would you rather be a fan of?
Kelvin Taylor is listed as 5 stars on several sites and he's ESPN's #1 RB.
I read somewhere that based on percentages there are more 5 star players than 4 stars and 3 stars in the NFL. However, that's because there are far fewer 5 star players. It takes a mixture of 3 and 4 star players with a few 5 stars mixed in to have a highly competitive team.
