Is it just me or does anyone else find Dooley to be a complacent, mediocre writer that provides no insight whatsoever???

I know Tupac does. In general, I find Dooley's iPod suggestions about as useful as his hoops commentary.

Dooley would rather talk about watching golf in his man cave than anything relevant to Gator fans.

So, Dooley is what Brockway aspires to be?

IMO he comes off as complacent, lazy and somewhat smug. I understand he's an editorialist and isn't assigned to a beat. But he seems to have a passive interest in UF athletics which is what his job and paper revolve around.
BTW, sad Pat Dooley is a great follow on twitter.

There's a reason Dooley has been with the G'ville Sun for so long. It's akin to a guy never making it out of single A baseball.

He really only cares about football. At least he pays lip service to other sports as opposed to Hairston.

The newspaper is dying a slow death and the guys who write for them are going down with them. The ones who are in the print media are old crusty guys. Once they get through these last waves of print guys, the internet will have killed off the last of the newspapers.

I like Dooley better than brockway because he fits the fat lazy sportswriter stereotype better. Although in actuality brockway is a whole lot lazier.
Bottom line they both are terrible at their job.

Geez, that was harsh. I'd rather you call me a commie than suggest I like disco. Ouch.

The sports writers for the Sun don't dig to find something. They don't even have any particular insights beyond what the fans on the boards do.
They will tell you, with some justification, that The Firm restricts any access beyond the press conference. Period. Actually they can do more, much more.
They are close to retirement, they ain't rockin' the boat.
What does this add to your knowledge of the team?:
"15. I keep getting this question — is Florida's basketball team this good or are the teams they are playing that bad? It's a little bit of both. I love the way this UF team is defending and they have been fun to watch. And as tough as the schedule looked on paper, FSU, Wisconsin and Marquette haven't looked very impressive. Still, Florida hasn't just beaten those teams, they've hammered them into submission. We'll see what happens at Arizona on Saturday. It's not just that the Wildcats are pretty good, it's never easy to go across the country and play a game that starts at 10 p.m."
That is as superficial as it can possibly get. My grandson could write that.

Every fan base has local media guys they like and dislike. Obviously Brockway and Dooley aren't thought of well by many on here. So who are the go-to twitter follows or writers to read when it comes to the Gators? Honest question.

None. We have 1 local paper and the sports writers are below most HS student writers and so lazy it's laughable.

Me. Ehhh. . . not so much.
I am not sure there are any print media writers who have real strong gator basketball handle or fan following.
That may not be the fault of the writers', as I am not sure how much demand there is. Sure. . . those on this board love reading about hoops, but in depth coverage is not consumed by the 'average' fan.

If this is true... it would be a shame and a miscalculation on the part of the UAA. While football does not need to foster a fan following, basketball does. It should provide the local media as much access as possible. Opposite of football. . . it should be seeking local coverage even more so than national.
That is my opinion.
