The comments last year came after some OOC games exposed an apparent inability for his team to guard the 3. Teams were shooting high 3pt percentages against us and Cal made a comment along the lines of imagine what teams like Florida would do against us. My take from that was that if bad teams were giving us fits from 3, imagine what a good one could to. Last years UF team, if I remember right, chucked a lot of 3's.
That was a very different comment from this years. I think part of Cal thought last year's team had a shot at going undefeated. IMO, he wouldn't have honestly thought a team would beat his team.

Florida IS 25-32 points better than Kentucky right now IMHO. We have a long way to go to catch Florida and I'm not sure we will honestly. I love the Gator team!! They hustle their asses off and have a revolving bench of talent and 90% of the roster can make the three to stretch the defense.
I'm not big on excuses we are young bs! The game will be in February and a young team excuse is out the window! This is Caliparis revolving door system which I support but he damn well better figure out how to get us MUCH better in the next two months!!
To beat Fl you will have to go 16-2 or 17-1.

I could see why he would say this. For one thing, it's probably true right now (not 40 points, but I'm not sure a game would be close between the two teams) and for another, why not take the chance to motivate your team?
If I've learned anything about these Calipari run UK teams its to not sleep on them, especially towards the end of the year. I think by the time our games roll around, things will be a little tighter on paper than they are now.

Simple motivational ploy IMO. UK will be fine come time for us to play them. That being said, I (For once) do feel like we have a legitimate chance to beat UK in Gville, maybe even in a moderately convincing fashion (8-10).
If we beat UK by 40, then either UK is really, really not up to their standards or we are the best team in the country. Hard to see that happening.

I agree that it would be hard to see beating UK by 40 points, but I don't think it takes too much imagination to believe the Gators could be the best team in the country. It is not difficult to see the marked improvement from last year's team as though the team is improved from the tournament performance of last year. That should scare everybody on the SEC schedule to be prepared or get embarrassed.

We are a better team at this point in the season, but also it looks like the caliber of the opposition has taken a step back.

His team is young and talented but don't expect anything spectacular from them this year. We'd win by 30 at home and 15 on the road.

There's really no sense debating this right now - as its not really debatable, but I figured it was worth noting anyways.

As one of the worlds greatest self promoters he is hoping others will use this later to point out how great of a coach he is.

No doubt that Cal thinks his team needs an attitude adjustment. While I am sure there will be some improvement by the end of the year, this year looks like a "learning" year for Kentucky. The question is will the lack of any quality upperclassmen affect them next year or will the inmates continue to run the asylum?

We may have one or two upperclassmen who make a difference next year, but I am not counting on it. We will be pretty formidable next year regardless.
