CBS Sports: SEC Underwhelming
Jeff Goodman writes that as a whole the SEC has performed very poorly in the early going and may only get a few NCAA bids at this rate. Here's a snippet that mentions Florida in a positive light, but he wasn't so kind to our SEC brethren:
Quote:

The SEC has been downright pathetic thus far. We won't put the league in the realm of the Pac-12 the last few years, but it would be difficult to justify more than three or four teams for inclusion into the NCAA tournament at this point in the season. Maybe that will change, but league resumes are often built in November and December -- and the SEC is running out of time. Florida is a lock, clearly the most deserving team in the league. The Gators haven't just beaten all comers, they have pounded them. Billy Donovan's team has crushed Wisconsin and Marquette at home, and drilled Florida State in Tallahassee on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, this statement is so far, proving true.
The Gators still need to take care of business during the next several non-conference games, however.

The Dawgs are pitiful and the Vols are missing PF Maymon who had double knee surgury which has been slow to heal.S Carolina and Vandy don't have any players.

It's not too much of a stretch to say we are the best team in the country right now.
If we beat Arizona, then there's no question we're the best.

we're - the conference appears to be quite a bit down this season. can't argue w/ that.
UF may be the only bright spot right now. by season's end, UK may find its groove. they have a ways to go though.
so far who makes it into the tourney? UF, UK, Missouri, Bama? anyone else? Ole Miss?

No. No question Florida is best in the SEC right now, but lets not get carried away. Your best win is over a team ranked 40th in the nation. I agree, Zona would be a big win. But Duke has beaten two top 10 teams and three teams in the top 25 in the AP. No one touches their resume. Doesn't mean it has to take away from how well the gators have played.

Teams can't bank on doing crappy in the OOC and then having a good SEC record unless they have some key upsets against us and Mizzou. I remember 2 years ago Bama almost won the SEC regular season title, but didn't get an NCAA bid because of how poor their OOC record was.

It's the beginning of December. Are you seriously going to judge how good teams are based on their resumes? No question Duke has the superior resume as of now - but imo there are multiple teams who would be undefeated with Duke's schedule (Kentucky, Ohio State at home, Louisville without Dieng). Florida, in my opinion, is one of those teams.

Also, no doubt Goodman is right about the SEC sucking it up so far, but he's still an attention-seeking joke of a journalist imo.

Not sure I can agree with that, but I am fine with the Gators being *one* of the best.

Yes I am. My post was in response to one saying Florida was "clearly" the best team in the nation. I think there's no doubt they're in the running and that you can't say definitively that any other team is better. I just think the reverse is true as well - especially when one team has a significantly better resume than everyone else.
My statement doesn't have to contradict yours that Florida might be undefeated with that same schedule.

I must say, as bad a Vandy has looked, I was shocked by that outcome. X may not have their best team but they're always tough at home. Great win for this Vandy.
