Gator Tennis 2012-13
The Gators didn't have too great a showing at the recent All-American or ITA National Indoors. But they recently signed a very good class for next year and one of them will be joining the team in January. Diego Hidalgo might be able to offset losing Newman to Michigan. Should be an interesting dual season starting in January.

i usually follow....
try to catch a match live too if i'm up for a baseball game and there's a match in the morning. [i wish the UAA would stagger the start times to help fans in the spring catch multiple events.]

Maybe someday I'll be back in Florida to catch some games. Until then, the Internet is my best friend.

The ITA will release the new team rankings on January 3rd. The Gators ended up at #12 last year and will probably be ranked around the same spot to start the year.

I see that you also visted Talk Tennis. I get up to a couple matches per year from Orlando. It will be very interesting to see how the mens team shakes out. I have a feeling we might be better than anticipated. Hope Bob has a big year.

Yeah, I usually roam around here, Scout forums and Talk Tennis. Had a guy help me out with putting up my own Gators-Ospreys tennis site so hopefully they will give me a lot to blog about next year!

Been a Florida fan all my life but didn't graduate from there. Did some graduate work at UNF so been following that team too. I'm from Jax so hometown team and all. Wanted to follow both teams so I decided to have and combine them. It's a work in progress.

One thing that gives me hope with a new coaching staff is that maybe the problem of attrition will finally stop. I can't count all of the players who transferred or quit on Florida in the last few years. I'm sure that wasn't all on Coach Jackson, but hopefully Shelton and Delic can get some real excitement and belief in the program again.

It will be interesting see Georgia's Diaz and Florida's Shelton go at it. In 2007, Diaz' Georgia won the men't NCAA title and Georgia Tech's Shelton won the women's NCAA title. I would love to have seen or heard Diaz' reaction when he heard the Florida was hiring Shelton.

Lots of questions about the team this year with so many changes. Here's my wild guess:
Singles #1 van Overbeek
Singles #2 Diep (good for #1 but I have a feeling he'll be kept at #2)
Singles #3 Federhofer
Singles #4 Alford
Singles #5 Watson/Piro
Singles #6 Watson/Piro
Wildcard: Hidalgo (I'm assuming he is still going to join the team in January but I don't know if he will be playing and if he does, at what position. Hard to predict this one.)
Doubles#1 Alford/Diep
Doubles#2 Federhofer/Watson
Doubles#3 van Overbeek/Johnson?
The Gators did not have that great of a fall season so it's hard to predict but going with the results so far, this is my best guess. I'm sure there are some other Gator Tennis fans who have seen some matches that might have a different lineup. Incoming freshman Diego Hidalgo has an ATP doubles ranking of #403 (career high, currently #656) so he is definitely a possibility if he plays.

Dont like Federhofer at 3. I think Hidalgo will push Bob at 1. But my guess is 1. Bob, 2. Hidalgo, 3. Diep, 4. Alford, 5. Watson/Federhofer/Piro

Also looking at the Mens schedule. They have a stretch of 7 away matches against SEC teams.

Yeah, if Hidalgo can't play at least in the top 3 they will struggle against top 16 type teams. Federhofer physically needs to be scrapping in that 4-5 spot.

Seems that a lot is depending on Hidalgo. Hope this guy is ready to go.
