Grades v Wisconsin
Overall it was a great effort on both ends of the floor. The key to beating Wisc is usually tempo and we just owned them in that respect. Pretty much our only weakness was post entry passing. Onto the grades...(as a reminder, players are graded on their avg expectancy. Thus a player that less is expected of can exceed the grade of starter by making alot less plays)
KB, 7: He played a patient game and was very steady handling the ball for us. Love the classic 4 pt play and probably got fouled on a few drives that didnt get called because of the score. The real reason is he scores a 7 not a 6 were his reb. He has shown a real willingness to stick his nose in on loose balls. This is something completely new to KB this year when in the past he would always be leaking out. I hope he continues it because we need it when he plays the 2. As always his def was excellent.
Erik Murphy, 10: Not a whole lot to say about perfection. Only mistake he made was getting lazy on a wisc foul shot. Besides that he could do no wrong and really let the game come to him.
Yeguete, 5: It was just an avg game for Will. He didn't impact the game with his hands defensively but played very good positional and help defense. Had a great game at the FT line until the end. My one gripe is his cross over move. It has worked so far but Im not sure once that gets scouted it will be a usable move and it resulted in a charge. I see this as a trend unless he learns better body control or to pass. Still its a nice improvement on his game.
Young, 5: He scores a 5 mainly as a result of the failure of his teammates. He established good pos, sealed his man and the entry pass failed him. Both he and the Wisc C kind of neutralized each other. I would have liked to have seen him use his speed advantage a bit more to beat his man down the floor but understand his focus on the glass prevented that some.
Rosario, 6: He showed the type of streaky player he can be in a positive fashion and also showed when he has it going how his decision making can begin to get questionable. He was also caught of position a bit too many times defensively for my taste. With that said, he absolutely was the spark we needed tonight. He stepped up in a crucial time and made plays that swung the momentum along with Murph. He shot 5-12 and prob should have passed on 3-5 of those shots.
Frazier II, 7: I saw a little Lee Humphrey in him in that he really understands where to spot up. There is a savy to his off the ball knowledge for a Frosh that is very impressive. Its a matter of time until opposing teams coaches are teaching their players never to leave him and to find him on the break. I like that he is willing to be physical and bang with the big bodies on the glass.
Graham, inc: Not enough time to warrant a grade. He looked comfortable out there and in limited min showed defensive effort and understanding.
Ogbueze, inc: Not enough time to warrant a grade. He didn't look bad but I haven't seen yet how he can contribute to this team this year. This maybe because he needs some time to figure it out or just hasn't got enough minutes to show what he can do.
Walker, inc: Not enough time to warrant a grade.
Billy, 10: Team was prepared and clearly scouted Wisc well. Props to the asst who handled it. He used his bench well and understood that you need to control tempo against Wisc. A great overall game. Our team finally looks prepared at the FT early in the season a drastic change from years past.
refs, 5: I dont think they were bad but was nice to see Teddy Valentine miss some obvious calls. I like to know he is already in his NCAA Tourny form.
Announcers, 9: They didn't have one moment where I was really annoyed or they were harping on moronic things. Bilas is just really good even if he uses the same superlatives over and over.
Feel free to discuss.

pretty damn good analysis.
The only two negatives i saw were:
1) the crowd
2) the entry pass turnovers

And not to pick on Patrick, but he had a few balls that he simply lost possession of that he needed to hold on to.
Erik Murphy's body has really changed a ton since his freshman year. He has some bulk to him. Played like an All-American tonight. I know he was sick all week. But last night the only thing that was sick about him was his sick-ass stat line.
Kenny was a little shakey at the point early. He had a couple bad turnovers early on attempted entries. But all in all, very solid game for him.
I would have bumped Rosario up to a 7.

Did I hear Bilas say Florida would win the SEC as he was giving out grades to them?

Eric was a total monster, but he is the nightmare match-up for Wisconsin. Being that and bringing his A+ game was just a joy to watch.
I would have given Rosario a slightly higher grade. He shredded the Badger defense off the dribble like few have been able to do since Ryan started coaching them. Yes he did take a few ill-advised shots, but his ability to get to the rim seemingly at will distorted the Wisconsin D making the game easier for others.
Getting off to a fast start helped tremendously. If we started off cold Wisconsin might have been able to dictate tempo and that makes for an ugly game which is to their liking. I know that they like games in the 50's. Luckily only their game was there.

great analysis Tupac. One interesting stat worth noting is that we had as many offensive rebounds (9) as they had defensive rebounds (9). Outrebounded them 39-21 total. Not bad for an "undersized" team

Agreed, especially on Rosario. I was shocked to see how easily he penetrated the UW defense in the first half. In hindsight maybe shouldn't have been shocked, as part of it is dealing with breaking in inexperienced guards and missing their all-conference defensive PG. But still, Rosario did a great job taking advantage.
Overall I was disappointed Badgers didn't play better, but honestly with the way Gators played it wouldn't have mattered beyond the score margin. They'll be a better team by March once the young guards and esp. Dekker get more comfortable.

Patric was terrible. Rosaro was great. So those scores are wrong imo. Tupac getting 3 out of 5 right is his all-time best.

Nice Tupac. Pretty much agree with everything you said, especially about PY. I'm not sure this game was a good indicator of the player he will be for the rest of the year.

They were having trouble getting Patric the ball all night, but when he did get it he did good things. Also played solid D on their big.

Guards dribbling with their heads down on the pick and roll. You can never find out if the screener is open on the roll if you have your head down.

During the game, I felt that Rosario was a "chucker". But after reading other posts, I realize he did play well getting to the rim. Nice game for him.

Yeah I think Rosario is one of those kids where you just have to live with a couple of bizarre plays a game. Tonight he cheated once on defense when he shouldn't have and took a few crazy shots, but he also really looked to pass more than he did last year, to penetrate, to not take contested threes, and stayed mostly within himself. Billy has plenty to still get on him about, but I would bet if he were speaking honestly he would generally be happy with his progress from last year.
