Will we peter out in the end?
Started off good but of late we have all misses. Some of our biggest needs seem not to have been met as of yet. UF recruits well just on name recognition, I was hoping WM would take it to another level especially this year when uf seems to be turning the corner.

How much of this is due "negative" recruiting against UF? Even going back to the "Urban" era. It's not like freshman aren't playing early & often. We have 3 freshman on defense in the regular rotation this season. Next year freshman will be contributing early on offense, so I scratch my head when kids use "I committed to school X bcuz Coach Joe guaranteed playing time". If your good, you'll play

negative recruiting has nothing to do with whats going on right now. It doesnt matter if you get recruits late or early it just matters that you get them. If we got 5 commits last spring and 15 the last month people would be going crazy but the result would still be 20 recruits.

But what are chances of us finishing strong recruiting wise? I follow recruiting, bcuz I like to know about the next crop of gators, But It's not "end of the world" important. And even the previous class missed on a few prospects, muschamp landed a really talented class.

I mean it matters your definition of finishing strong. You are always going to miss on players at the end the pool of kids is smaller but the numbers of suitors is still there. If you think Florida is going to finish Adams Tunsil North Dawson Harris then you are going to be disappointed probably. I do think we will finish with very good football players

I keep forgetting about the transfers, especially since they've actually played @ the D1 level, should give this team a needed boost in protection, even if they just provide depth in practice.

A lot of people do. Those two are going to play a lot next year. Expect the line to be much improved.

I honestly have no clue. In my drunk guess I would say Trenton Brown, JUCO DT, Rod Johnson, Marcell Harris and either Elijah Daniel or Ebenezer Ogundeko. I would think there would be somebody off the radar like Stacey Thomas Kieth Kesley or a kid they liked in camp.
We also have to watch out for these coaching moves which will open up new player movement. The one thing I do know is the coaches will pick good football players. Lat year I would have question maybe 3 or 4 players. I think I might only question 1 or 2 this year. The staff is great at evaluation and I am not really worried. The lack of play makers is a little troubling but those elite guys are hard to get.

After the way we closed last year and the way we appear to be closing this year, I'm honestly not expecting much (if any) more good news. Don't know what's going on, but I'm not at all impressed w/ Muschamp's recruiting. And for those that will say we still have a couple months to go, recruiting isn't what it was a few years ago. Most classes are filling up and there aren't many game changing recruits out there that seem to have the slightest interest in being GATORS... I'm happy that we seem to be dong alot better on the OL, but am just bewildered by our WR recruiting. We need to close w/ 1 more superstar type WR, and I don't see it happening.

you mean signing one of the best classes in the nation last year you were not happy with that?
You are not happy with signing one of the best classes in the nation this year?
While we dont have that one great instant impact WR please name 3 schools in the nation that have better WR classes that Florida does this year?

This focuses too much on recruiting rankings while ignoring other important factors.

No, he isn't recruiting like Meyer, but he doesn't have to. He runs an entirely different system based on entirely different goals. Look at Saban's classes. How many "superstar type" receivers does he get? In six recruiting classes, he has signed two five-star receivers. Miles has more, but they are all from Louisiana, where has no competition.

There's many things people could feel dissatisfied about for the Gators this year - the class we pulled in last year and have on paper for this year are not one of them. Anyone who thinks otherwise is cutting their own nose off to spite their own faces and there's not a lot of point trying to put out a rational assessment to those in denial.
For the record though, in 2011 he held onto Driskel, Christy, Roberson, Purifoy who have been 4 of our most integral contributors to a 9-1 record this year.
In 2012 he added Fowler and Bullard who have both been stellar as true freshmen this year, as well as guys like Jones, Humphries, Jacobs and Morrison who have also contributed straight away. A consensus top 5 class at worst but who some people couldn't get excited about because we didn't add any of the signing day primadonas. Real rational.
Oh and last year's vaunted No.1 overall guy was Mario Edwards. He's already blown his reshirt and has 3 tackles and half a sack for FSU. Apparently Jimbo said he's done "some nice things in practice". Is that what you want when you burn a year on the No.1 prospect? Jonathan Gray has 3 TDs for Texas. He was as vaunted as they came after his HS career. Seriously, I think we've done brilliantly when you consider Bullard and Fowler's immediate impact.
In 2013 we have several elite prospects coming in yet again in Taylor, Hargreaves, Brantley - a linebacking trio that would be the envy of most in the country in Hearns, Powell and McMillan and a potentially instant impact WR in Fulwood. ESPN has us No.2 overall, Rivals at No.6 but you'd think the sky was falling for some people.
Stating stars don't mean anything is true in some respects but there's a correlation that can't be denied - teams that win historically are up at the top of these rankings.
Recruiting is just fine. Arguing to the contrary is not seeing the wood for the trees.

^^This.
I always wanted to get Dorial Green-Beckham in our class last year. I think he was the #1 WR recruit. He never really hurt us in the Missouri game. He is only a freshman, but his stats for the year are 22 Rec, 261 yards, and 3 TDs. He will be great I would think, but didn't make the impact I thought he would make as a freshman like a Sammy Watkins, Julio Jones type player. Percy Harvin had 427 yards, 12.6 Avg, 2 TDs RECEIVING, but also had 428 yards, 10.4 Avg., 3 TDs RUSHING as a freshman which was much better than Dorial. Both were #1 WR. I know Harvin is once in a million type WR but how did we know Green-Beckham wouldn't be just as good until he played.
Even Deonte Thompson which was a 5-star, number 3 WR in the nation when he was recruited never had the impact I thought he would have. But someone like Louis Murphy was a 3-star and had 655 yards, 17.0 Avg, 7 TDs RECEIVING as a senior was a great WR here. Add Andre Debose to who I thought would be better.
I agree with LimeyGator that "Stating stars don't mean anything is true in some respects but there's a correlation that can't be denied - teams that win historically are up at the top of these rankings." Great line by the way.
Loucheiz Purifoy was a 3-star, that dude is a stud! Period! Look at the impact he has made. I think we will be fine too. I know he is a CB, but wanted to stress the star power impact. And Antonio Morrison, 3-star, he will be an All-American, book it! Kid can play.
I think next year Latroy Pittman, who was hurt, Raph Andrades, along with Fullwood and the rest of the WRs will be better. Kent Taylor and Colin Thompson, I would think will help too who really didn't play and are learning the system. We can't get everybody but I would like to see one more stud WR threat recruit.
We just need to keep Brent Pease as our OC a few more years for consistency at least. I like the way he changes things. It's his 1st year and has done better than the last couple that were here. Weis and Dazzler gave me a headache.
You look at other elite teams and their staff has been together for years. This is the first time the staff has been together for a couple of years and look at the record. We have beat some pretty good teams which I thought we might have lost. I want to win all of them, but how many people would have bet $1,000 at the beginning of the year that we would have beaten LSU and USC like we did. No one! Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
