Why not? Alabama-Huntsville has one.

I think it's Alabama Huntsville that has the team. And they're the only Southern team that plays NCAA hockey (not club). I think it would be awesome if we had a team but financially, it would be costly. You would have to fly long distances to every road game and you probably wouldn't draw that big of a crowd to home games. My guess would be you would lose quite a bit of money. Now, I would go to some games and think it would be awesome to watch. But I'm guessing it wouldn't get to big of a draw most of the time.

I say "Puck it!"..without a doubt there should be hockey in Gainesville...hell there is a really good team in Pensacola!!! I am all in on this one!!! We could beat Minnesota..Minnesota Duluth...Minnesota State just beat UM....now this would enhance all that is Gator!!! Football goes South with this addition! Thanks GatorCountry for giving us a new direction!

We would have to go to Jacksonville or Orlando just to practice....besides we have a club team last I checked. Until we have ice in Gainesville, this idea doesn't hold water...or ice.

Maybe we can build an indoor football practice facility in such a way that it could also contain an ice rink and some amount of seating.

They do have a hockey team, it's a club team and won the 'SEC' two years ago and went to nationals.

UF had a hockey team a decade ago. Don't they play any more? They used to play in Jacksonville.

Where have you been? It has been posted several times over the past--we DO have, as noted in another post in this thread--a hockey 'team' albeit a club, not a scholly sport here. In fact, the entire SEC has a hockey league with the exception of Kentucky and LSU. No doubt Mizzou has hockey and possibly TAMU, just they aren't shown on the SEC site. FSU also has a team which plays UF every year. One thing to keep in mind...and admire for that matter---the kids playing have to pay their own way! They practice in JAX--drive back and forth on their own--everything is funded by the players and I suppose donations. Hats off to those guys who obviously are playing for the love of the game.
As we speak, UF leads the SEC East with a 5-2 record.
