Rough Start to November Recruiting
So Anzalone and Dawson are a No-Go. But don't fret, after being upset last night about the Anzalone tweets, I was thinking - We have a GREAT LB coming in and Early Enrolling who is from our state... and we should fine. McMillan is going to be a beast... While it would have been nice to get a talented kid like Anzalone, we are doing great at LB. Really thought he was ours when he filled out the papers... But that type of stuff happens all the time... Have to roll with the punches and find another kid to give the scholly to.
Dawson's dropping of UF came out of nowhere... And this one hurts us a little more than missing on a LB. This is the type of guy we NEED. But, it just isn't in the cards. There's still a ways to go before he sends his LOI, but man, being dropped completely after all that happened doesn't leave any room for optimism. BUT we've always had another OG in state, who - in the long run, could end up being just as good as Dawson... Ira Denson. Time to turn up the heat... OFFER the kid. Now. We need a couple more OL... can't wait until February to HOPE something happens... Anyone remember Avery Young??
Trenton Brown was offered by FSU. So now our rival joins in on, who I believe, is the best realistic OT prospect we have on our board. Hope we can land this guy.
BUT anytime we have guys disappear from our board, new targets pop up elsewhere...
So I'll start BIG - Robert Nkemdiche. I didn't even know our staff was really in contact with him, But I am stoked to know that we are one of the schools he could ***POSSIBLY*** land at. Everyone thinks that Ole Miss is the favorite because of his brother, but I think if he listed UF as a contender, then we have just a good of shot as anyone. Who knows where this guy lands... It's pretty unrealistic to think he lands at UF but just being considered is awesome.
What happens to Auburn's recruits if/when Gene Chizik is fired??? Worst season Auburn has had in a loooooooong time. I think this is weeks away. They have 3 guys in the ESPN top 10 (7 in the top 300)... Do they stay at Auburn or abandon ship if/when Auburn hires some random dude to take over. Perhaps we can sneak off with one.
Marcell Harris' decision is coming up in 10 days... He chose not to make any more visits... I have no reason whatsoever to believe is nothing but Gator.
Greg Gilmore's decision is pretty soon (days) too. I am not sure how we stand. I know he has always been a LSU fan and he did tweet that he was just trolling UF... but you never can tell until a kid makes his decision known. I am not holding out hope, I know he likes LSU A LOT.
Montravius Adams would be the gem of the class if he were to sign. I think, out of ALL the guys we have left on our board, Adams is by A LOT the most important. He has many good reasons to come here and after the LSU game, many felt that Adams was an eventual Gator commit. BUT he still has some visits to make, and of course he isn't going to say he "disliked some place vehemently" because he is going through the process - He will say good things about everywhere he goes... a la his UGA visit. And the same will happen with his Clemson visit. And HOPEFULLY he'll be here with his Mom for the December Banquet, where he will have great things to say.
What we have going for us is that UGA will lose to Bama... again. We'll get the highest ranked bowl game out of any SEC team (save for Bama, who will be a NC contender). And when the season is all over we can be really happy with a GREAT season and we can sell our progress to the few highly rated, uncommitted or not, recruits left on our board.
Or, if UGA loses to Auburn, maybe we can make some magic happen... Nothing helps recruiting more than a fresh NC. I think the first scenario is more of a reality though, heh.

I didn't post in any of Anzalone's threads because I never thought he was Gator material. Just reaks of "big 12/ND get dominated against an SEC team" type of player.. Glad he's not taking a roster spot.
Really wanted Dawson.
Those are some big huge names you're tossing out there. Hope we hit on a couple of them (especially ADAMS and Brown).

So, figure that Marcell Harris is, if not a lock, a pretty safe bet. Seems we have a solid shot at turning Denson and will have interest in him now that Dawson has changed his mind. And let's say we get Trenton Brown.
That gets us to 23, assuming you count Tyler Moore as a recruit (ESPN is, but it's largely a semantic issue). Is there anyone else right now for whom we could say we are favorites? Doesn't really seem like it. Gilmore seems LSU bound. We might have a legit shot at Adams, but it seems a bad sign when his mom walks away from the UGA visit talking about Richt like he's the Dalai Lama. No one seems to think we have much of a shot at Marquez North or at turning DeMarcus Robinson.
Right now it looks like we have more to lose than we have to gain in the next few months. Brantley, Hearns and McMillian all seem less than rock solid. Meanwhile, the best players at our positions of greatest need appear to be slipping away.
At least we've addressed OL pretty well with Moore and Garcia, though I'd like to see us add at least one more high school lineman.

I'd have taken Brown over Dawson and Denson to begin with.
Never knew what to think about Anzalone, but I liked that he was an EE.
I think Harris is in the bag. Best DB class since 2010. Let's hope they all stay this time.
Not counting on Gilmore. Hoping, but more like wishing for Adams. He would help shore up two straight years of frustration recruiting DTs. Wish there was someone else out there.
I think we'll get one more WR, maybe even someone to drool over, though I'm still drooling over Fullwood, no matter what GATORAZ says. (Not saying I know any better.)
There's a couple more DEs out there. I know we have about ten already, but we can spread them around to other positions. We could really use some help at small forward.
Great class. It will get better. We'll probably be done before NSD. We could just work that day like normal people.

To be fair to Gilmore his tweet about trolling UF was a joke because some so called "UF" fans were accusing him of trolling us on twitter. I really think Greg hasn't made up his mind yet and is torn between us and LSU. Hopefully our depth chart, or lack there of wins out in the end.

after watching that video, I really want this kid at UF. Good head on his shoulder, good smarts, and would be a great addition.

The Buckeyes are pretty confident they'll swing McMillan when he visits OSU for the Michigan game. Anyone in the know think we can hang on to him?

I think we can and will hang on to McMillan. tOSU is real far away from home for him. People talk about CWM not closing well last year but keeping the players you got commits from is a part of closing well. Right now others are recruiting McMillan, Ivey, Brantley & Herns very hard. Just keeping all on board is going to be hard to do.

I think we will hang on to him... there are some factors keeping him close to home, but from some of the stories I've been reading, it seems like there is a lot of buzz around his upcoming OSU visit. Whether or not he flips, I have no idea... I'd like to think not, but the EE signing date is approaching, and if he were to flip - it'd have to be now.
He is our best LB commit, by far - We cannot really afford to lose him.
James Hearns is also considering taking visits to Louisville and FSUcks along with his visits to Florida and OSU... I was feeling pretty good about landing him, even with his new love-affair with OSU, but the fact that FSU is now being considered is mind-boggling. He was kicked out of their camp for throwing a gator chomp, I thought... No clue how they worked their way in... Unless Hearns is trolling.
Hearns is a great prospect and I am hoping that he wants to stay close to home.

McMillan is a stick, imho, you never know though - I always hate it when one of our commits go to OSU on a visit, I know what Urban is capable of.
Keeping Brantley might be as easy as offering Ira Denson. I know I have been on the Ira Denson bandwagon for awhile, but I think that is a completely accurate statement.
Ivey has family bonds to UF and I thought I read that his grandparents retired here. I think he is the strongest lock out of the 4.
James Hearns = ????????????????????????

we all know what Urban can do but I doubt McMillan wants to go that far away fro school.
Well I am going to stick with my guns I still dont think we take Ira the staff is just not high on him. I do think taking Ira would seal the deal with Caleb.
Ivey will be a gator imo.
Hearns is a different story I think he always assumed one of his friends would also get a Florida offer and none of them did. I could see Urban flipping him.
