Larson not on Scholarship
According to Billy D at Basketball Media Days, Larson isn't on scholarship. Apparently he did not meet some of the expectations he was supposed to last year, but instead of transferring, he decided to stay and try and earn the scholarship back.

Billy D said Cody Larson is not on scholarship, has some responsibilities he needed to take car of, puts UF at 13 scholarship players.
Larson had option to transfer, but decided to stay with the team as a walk-on.

Guess that solves the scholarship issues.

Aside from him playing out of his mind, I can't see him earning that scholarship back unless we are unable to sign the maximum or players leave early/transfer.

Maybe he realizes how much better uf is then just about everywhere else and it's worth paying for rather than xfering elsewhere.

Or perhaps as I have suggested here before as a player who has already redshirted might find it in his best interest to stay one more year and graduate and use the graduate transfer rule to move and play big minutes his last two season. I do not know if Larson is the kind of student who can earn a degree in 3 years, but it would be in his best interest if he could.

He's the one I was expecting it to be. Billy gave him a chance when he was damaged goods. Glad he stuck around & hope he gets his act together.

That is actually a pretty good point. Larson has a nice shot at filling that fourth big role because we don't have anyone else who can play the five. Worst-case scenario, he can spend another year learning under Donovan, be on a team that competes for rings, earn a degree, and then transfer and play immediately elsewhere. Best-case scenario, he can increase playing time, contribute to the team, and barring any problems earn his scholarship back.

No way he can earn a degree in 3 years, but frankly THIS is Larson's season to prove he is worth the time, because Harris can't play and Walker isn't here yet.
He has to prove this season that he can earn 10-18 min a game. Billy wants to run more, so he will have a chance.

A little OT, but did people know that Adam Allen is back playing BBall? I guess he used that grad school rule and is playing for Rollins. Guess his leg injury healed up. Good for him.

Thanks for the update. I sure hope he can play. I will be interested to see how he can do after so much time. I hope he can pick up an MBA or somthing at the same time.

Plenty of incentive to play hard this season even without the possibility of getting a ship. He's got to earn his way on the court to have a chance to play professionally. He's got enough momentum coming out of last season to build himself a sold backup role behind Young. His parents have bought the bullet. It's no worse than the rest of us who are paying for our kids college out of our own pockets. Best of luck to him. Glad we've got another ship to hand out.

Larson has some serious issues, despite some denials by some on these boards, and I'm surprised he had the option on staying on the team even as a walk-on.
Hopefully, Larson grows up, makes good decisions and takes advantage of his last chance.

"we were not going to renew his scholarship until he took care of these things," Donovan said. "Gave Cody the option to transfer if he wanted to leave to find another school and also gave him the option to come back, try to earn his scholarship back."
Guess I was wrong. Sounds like if he does what he is asked, he will get the scholly back.
