Zach from the sun said we offered him last night. He is a DT/DE. Anybody have any info on this?

Cummings previously transferred from FSU to JUCO. Wonder if it means we got a no from someone higher on the board.

"Cummings played in five career games for the Seminoles registering seven tackles and a half tackle for a loss. Before being hampered by a thumb injury that caused him to miss the majority of the 2011 season, Cummings played in two games and tallied four tackles. He missed spring practice after having an arthroscopic knee procedure. In 2010, he played in three games as a true freshman and recorded three tackles (two solo and one assisted), picking up two tackles in the season opening win over Samford and adding a tackle against Wake Forest." -per the FSU site.

Not good news in my humble and uninformed opinion. If we were going to end up with the guys staff wanted we wouldn't need a DL band aid. That said, if we have to take him I hope he sets the woods on fire.

He was a pretty decent prospect out of high school, though injuries seemed to hamper him. I honestly have not seen anything on him as a JUCO so his recruitment is sort of a mystery. Regardless, we don't exactly have a loaded board at defensive tackle, so if the kid can give us some depth, then it seems like a smart move.

You're absolutely right and it's not fair to read the offer as proof we're finished for the other bigger names. But I figure we have enough of a board if we were going to get one of the big three SDE/DT prospects and one of the DE/Buck types like and Ebenezer Ogundeko. Still hoping for the best here and a lot could happen either way before NSD so we'll see.
Have to imagine it can only help if we pull off a victory vs LSU next week.

I think that he may be a good fit. Was hampered by injuries and got passed up on the depth chart at FSU. He also has relatives in Gainesville.

Thought I read where he is up to 302.
We do need depth on D line. Wonder if he could make it in for January enrollment?

If we beat LSU, we may get Gilmore. That's my hope anyway. Cummings is a solid player in his own right.

I just want to sign him so we can hear Mick Hubert say "Cummings on top of Gurley" next year. Sorry.

I dont really agree with this if we got a top DT left on our board their impact would probably be minimal. Even Top DT recruits rarely play significant minutes as freshmen in the SEC. Its the one position I am worried about going into next year.

Yep, I would have to agree, with the lack of ready to go players on DLine, the fact is Bullards and Fowlers don't grow on trees, and they have played well, but have had growing pains as usual. With the Juco guys you get a little more physical development with these guys, so this would be good to have another solid body on the line Juco or not.

Those two guys are playing DE too. Its a big difference playing DE than DT as a freshmen.

Nope, still not good news. It means the guys we took 2012 aren't looking to be ready; that they won't get the guys in 2013 they wanted; or tells you how staff feels about the guys we have committed already.
Do you believe they will get Darius Cummings, a physically ready DT, plus a DE type still? That's what we need, it appears.

I think the staff understands that the guys already committed will probably not be able to step in and fill that DT role as freshmen.
One of the things that CWM has reiterated is that its hard to play well when you haven't had game experience. So the DT's we took in 2012 are still an unknown.
Numbers are going to be real tight, as it stands right now Florida is at the scholarship limit counting the 2013 commits. So for every commit Florida takes not until signing day somebody will have to leave the program either by way of transfer going prop early or just graduating and not playing football anymore.
I do believe one of the remaining spots in this class will be a DE/BUCK commit. I have no clue on if we take or get Cummings. Cummings plays at the same school that Jacobs played at.

With Powell, Sherit, and Fowler, do we need another Buck?? I think we need another SSDE or DT, Trenton Brown, and Ramsey/Harris and call it a day
