Dark Horse Recruit
Since we have more slots than expected, name a recruit that could grab one of the final ships that hasn't been discussed much on the board.
My pick is GHS MLB Keith Kelsey.

we need lb's. IMO, with the large number of schollies that we have to give, it is worth it to give a legacy or a local kid an opportunity that might not be the highest rated. we have seen it work out several times in the past -- willie jackson, v. brown, t. mcgriff, t. jackson, b. james

Didn't know James was a legacy. Who was his dad?

I think he may have been referring to BJames as a "local kid".

I don't think the current coach believes in burning a scholarship on a warm body, better to keep that one in the pocket and give to an outstanding 2014 player.
A quick sidestory, if you will. We all know that our previous coach never filled up an entire class and had us running lean, well below the max allowable. There were years where said coach did exactly as the OP mentioned, gave one last scholarship to a kid that had a near career-ending injury, or to a kid that admittedly would be a "project", at least one of which is still on the team. Anyway, you guys probably remember the sad story a couple years ago of a kid from Navarre High School named Ian Lockwood, tough football player who was all Gator, diagnosed with brain cancer. Players like Tebow and Ahmad Black and the previous coach visited him at Shands when he was there getting treatment. Anyway, this amazing kid had an obviously terminal illness, was not expected to live more than a year, and did succumb to his disease. I always thought the classiest thing our coach could have done was to offer this kid a UF scholly (as we had plenty to burn) while he was alive, knowing it probably would not be used for more than a year. For some reason, we did not. IMO, we had our Chucky Mullins moment and whiffed.

I'm not opposed to saving ships for next year but Kelsey is hardly just a warm body. The ESPN Insider analyst gave him a strong evaluation. He's got good size, has been productive and has plenty of offers from teams like Louisville, USF, UCF & Utah. I like taking a chance on a local kid b/c they typically play their hearts out and do anything the coaches ask.

AS said in his article that came out today that UF looks to be done at the LB position.

If Kelsey is anything like his father then he can flat out play!

Any other names to throw out there? Maybe another DE or WR?

As far as receivers, we need guys that can take over games as soon as they walk on campus, like Amari Cooper or Sammy Watkins.
What a nice change that would be. Of course, we would need to get a passer who can get them the ball, and we are working on that too.

The coaching staff has done a fantastic job recruiting WRs this year. If we want to consistently land those 5 star Cooper/Watkins types, we'll have to show some improvement in our passing game. The offenses of the last 3 seasons have provided a negative recruiting tool for other schools to use against us with WR prospects. I am hopeful that will change soon.

Totally agree with that, and am hoping that one of our new recruits will step up to be "that kind" of receiver.
Heck, I wouldn't mind a reputation for just being able to dump the ball off to power backs who rumble for 35 yards a clip, either. You know, something the Gumps have perfected.

Definitely would go after some more middle lb unless they project someone else there. Bostic was a safety when he signed

Just because you say this on the internet does not make it true.

Why does his local paper from his high school days refer to him as a linebacker on his HS team?

I still think we have a shot at landing Adams. Although, he's too well known to be a "Dark-Horse recruit".
