Rimmer Decommits
It appears Rimmer has decommited. Any idea why? Does this mean we get someone higher ranked?

Supposedly the coaching staff had asked him about walking on his first year to free up another scholarship...

Mike Capshaw, who wrote the story on the front page, says that sources told him Rimmer was asked to walk on to free up a scholarship.

Unfortunate for him, but could be seen as a good sign for UF. Does this mean we're confident we'll get another commit this year?

Sadly this was pretty much my first thought as well.

Can we completely afford to lose him?
Inotherwords, do we expect better players to fill all of our schollys?

Can't say I blame him. He was iffy about Florida before he committed because we were still recruiting other bigs. So if we asked him to walk on, I suppose he thought he wasn't a priority. Sorry to see him move on.

Well, I'm glad Billy was upfront about it. He still has time to visit other schools. Hopefully for us, we'll reel in another one!

Upfront, meaning months after he was offered a scholarship and committed based on that offer?

Well, things change and it's not like Rimmer was left high and dry. There are plenty of schools offering him. Nor did we just drop him. I'm not all for this, but at the same time, I don't feel like anything dirty or dishonest has been done by our coaching staff.

We can afford to lose him for now Harris isn't leaving early and either is DFS unless he just blows up next year or bad advice. This atleast clears a spot for some of the other bigs and guards in the class we are in the running for.

Yeah, it looks bad, IMO, but overall Billy has a deservedly good rep and this ought to blow over.

^Yeah, I tend to agree.
I do not like circumstances like this, but they are very few and very far between for Billy Donovan.

You are way off base here...Rimmer and his parents knew the situation before we offered this summer and before he committed...good kid, wish him well....but BD was more than up front with the whole family from the beginning

We've mentioned different levels of offers and sometimes kids/PARENTS don't understand them. Just because we offer you doesn't mean not conditional on other players. We are VERY upfront with what is going on

Thanks bullis and CoachSayre. That makes more sense in light of Billy's ethical reputation.

No coach is going to request that of a player if something else was not seriously in the works.

Yeah, that's more along the lines of what I gathered from reading between the lines of various articles regarding his recruitment. Who knows all the ins & outs, but by wanting to keep the reason for his decision to his family & the coaches, it looks like Rimmer is being honorable about this as well. He wants to keep this private so we should respect that & not spend a lot of time speculating.
