The entire godaddy.com website is completely down
My website and email are out of commission. I've never seen this happen before. Doesn't a company that large have some back up contingencies in place?

Found out they are under attack by a hacking group called "anonymous". Should be an interesting day. I'm enjoying reading the posts on their Facebook page.....LOL

Yep, lots of potential pitfalls with hosting yourself. You have to know if your ISP has bandwidth limits and if they do, what are they? How much traffic might you see? Any streaming media? How reliable is your ISP? If you have spotty internet connection and they are down, your site is down.
Basically, what I'm saying is, I would never host a business or enterprise site on a home server, and more importantly a home ISP connection. Now, for a personal/family website/blog, sure.

Well, this guy is apparently a little more educated in the area of site servers than the average guy with that type of knowledge. He has created and perfected his own style of video streaming via servers and other connections that people are beginning to seek his services. He launched his own video streaming site last month and is signing up clients on a fairly regular basis. I don't know a lot of details involved but I do know from what I have heard from others that the kid is pretty stinkin' smart. I will probably stay with godaddy for the time being but when my renewal is up in May I might consider the switch.

Really nothing beats Amazon Web Services, if you're planning on hosting yourself.
If your site doesn't get much traffic you have a configurable / scalable server with monitoring that starts for free (for the first month) and can be as low as $12/mo for a linux server.
I mean, you could cluster 3 servers together for under $40.
