I doubt Sandusky had anything on PSU. PSU and Paterno did it to themselves. They were aware of allegations back in 98. Sandusky was never charged. Perhaps the brass figured it would never amount to anything. They worked out a nice retirement package with Sandusky, which kept him around the program. Once the PSU brass became aware of the incident in 2001, they realized they were screwed if the allegations came to light (negative publicity, etc.). Rather than own up to it at the point, PSU and Paterno decided to ignore it and allow Sandusky to remain around the program. From this point on, they had tied themselves to Sandusky. If he got caught, they got caught. If nothing ever came from it, then they could avoid punishment themselves. In every respect, they made the worst decision that they possibly could have made.
