Fuller Brush Man.
Lighthouse for the Blind salesmen going door to door selling brushes and combs and things like that they had made.
How about door-to-door salesmen in general, who actually carried products with them?

Many years ago, on the old Jonathan Winters tv show, he did DEATH OF A SALESMAN, and he portrayed Willie Lohman, the central character.
In the skit, they asked him if he was a salesman. He said he was and it was terrible. He went on to explain it was really hard being a DOOR TO DOOR BRICK SALESMAN.
lmfao

Birch beer...yum.
First time I had eggs with grits was a Royal Castle. Right next to the LITTLE FARM STORES drive through. Milk was a gallon for a buck, with big glass bottles with a metal handle and VANILLA ice cream gallon was 99 cents or something close.
Helped my 13 year old buddy fold papers , MIAMI HERALD, on a Saturday at 5 am.
My reward was breakfast at Royal Castle.
Good trade.
Once, I was one of two customers at 6 am on another day. The guy took my order and twenty minutes later , I had not received my order. As I got up to leave, the paramedics rushed in and said WHERE IS THE GUY HAVING AN EPILEPTIC SEIZURE??, then jumped over the counter and into the back room.
Because I am very smart, I decided I better go someplace else .
On 119th st and seventh ave. in Miami was a Latta's restaurant. There was another further south. I went to high school with the son of the owner.
They had a huge slanted mirror over the grill with these immortal words in big white letters.. COOKED IN SIGHT MUST BE RIGHT.
You know, I think I sat in almost every seat, walked all around the counter area...and NOT ONCE COULD I EVER SEE ANYTHING BUT THE TOP OF SOMEBODY'S HEAD.
hhmm
While we are eating, I hope somebody remembered LUM'S , hot dogs steamed in beer, and BIG SCHOONERS of beer.
Lord have mercy.
Superior thread
I also remember tv signoff with the STAR SPANGLED BANNER

Yes, I remember Lum's. They used to serve Frosty root beer I believe. Shakey's Pizza, too. How about this? "It's ten o'clock. Do you know where your children are?" That public service announcement used send chills down my spine when I was a little kid. It sounded so ominous.

Jonathan Winters was great. When he teamed with Robin Williams on Mork and Mindy, the ad libbing was classic.

My older brother left home when he was 17 and joined a door to door encyclopedia sales crew. This was in the 1940's. He said they would go to some of the larger cities in the South: Atlanta, Birmingham, Tampa, Savannah. They would canvas a neighborhood and literally go door to door. later his crew was sent up to Flint, Michigan. This was a big thing back in the 40's, and he was able to make a decent living at this through commisions. Of course it was hard work with long hours and living out of hotel rooms. He told me if he ever talked his way into a home he usually was able to make a sale. Encyclopedias were a big hit back in the 40's and probably into the 50's.

Froggy the Gremlin! I bought one of these toys at a garage sale for $1.00, I had no idea what it was except the box said it was from NBC radio.
It fetched $500 on eBay.
