Can't wait to see him running all over the D in Orange and Blue! Finally we are going to have a big back than can run people over.

Jimmy Johnson said Emmitt's strength was his lateral quickness. He was very good at sliding inside or out where ever the hole developed instead of just plugging along in a straight line. Hopefully Kelvin has similar ability.

I know He is about 3 inches shorter but watching him run on film he makes quick stops and shift hands with the ball (the only thing missing was the stiff-arm) I was reminded of Jim Brown anyway we are getting a good one!

12 seconds in the 100 is not impressive for a running back, but if you watched him race and saw how tight the back was for the first 40 or 50 yards, he's be right up there with the guy who breaks away and wins it. He could even lead at 20 yards. That's the speed that gets you to the second level. If Taylor wanted to be a good sprinter, he could lose 30 pounds and possibly get his 100m time around 11 seconds. But he's not about fast. He's thick, compact and strong. That thirty pounds on him is all muscle and it's all where you want it to be on a running back. That strength is what propels him the first 10 or 15 yards, through arm tackles and sometimes right over defenders. Sprinters seldom do that, unless they were named Walker or Jackson. Even Fred Taylor wasn't as physical as Kelvin.

I don't think it's a stretch at all. In the early going the knock on Fred was a lack of instinct and an upright running style. And he didn't have a single breakaway run until late his final season.

Sound about right strange. Let me make this clear I am not knocking Taylor just making an observation. These guys are going to be strong in some aspects and weak in others. Was just saying he is not running away from a lot of people. Doesn't mean he is not a great back since he has many other attributes where he excels. People telling me a 100 time doesn't matter at all are crazy same people that loved demps. It will be interesting to see his 40 time at the opening. Kids going to be a big time player great 100 time or not though.

To temper your generalization, I was crazy about Demps' speed. But he clearly wasn't a great running back. He was a great Gator and had a productive career. But his breakaway TD run to getting stuffed at the line ratio was nothing to write home about.
On the other hand, think how good Emmitt would have been if he was fast.*

I used to love watching Emmitt getting gang tackled on long runs as he was falling into the end zone. Indeed Dreamliner, he was fast enough.

Taylor has the potential to be the between the tackles guy we've been asking for for awhile... and Taylor and Joyer coming out of the I running between Humphries and Dunker gives me goosebumps

Funny you said that because i too have always thought he looked more like Emmitt.

I am not saying Taylor isnt a great back he seems to have all the attributes besides breakaway speed. But that 100 time is alarming. Still expect him to be a great Gator.

Not sure where you got your info, but I've got Taylor's PRs at 11.34 and 23.95. Those aren't fast times, but they're not terrible either. Well, the 200 is pretty bad, but the 200 is not a big man's race. Luckily the football field is only 100 yards long.

The milesplit site I linked to is probably going to be more accurate. Either way, it's not that important how fast he is at 100m, and especially not at 200m. I doubt he really trains much for track, and he certainly doesn't have the body for it.

Yeah I dont judge people off PR especially since its high school you dont know about the wind and how they were timing that day. He is a 12.2 guy in the 100 look at his times there is a pattern. My point was that was the area he lacked in that was all I damn sure didnt say he sucked. But with those times he is not running away from people probably. He can still be the best back in the SEC. What he does best fits our system but there is a reason the coaches are looking for a 3rd back that is a speed back.
