QB- B- (1)
Max Staver - 6'5" / 235 - Brentwood TN 3*
Analysis--- With the staff's wise philosophy that a qb should be signed every year UF got just that in Max Staver. Unfortunately for Florida they missed on a few prospects early and ended up getting somebody that they felt comfortable with in Staver. He has a very stong body with a live arm and great frame to work with. Pease is hoping to meld Staver's physical tools into that of a well-rounded qb, as he needs A LOT of work on his mechanics and footwork.
Grade Could Have Been Higher--- With the departure of QB Jacoby Brissett, the team needs a quaterback who can compete with Morningwheg for the back-up role, and atleast push him to be that much better; but with striking out on prospects Brice Ramsey, Cord Sandberg, Asanti Woulard, and Cooper Bateman (my personal favorite), the qb signed was far from Florida's first choice. (Don't worry, UF got their first choice for 2014 in Will Grier)
2014 Needs: 1

RB- A (2)
Adam Lane - 5'9" / 205 - Winter Haven FL 4*
Kelvin Taylor - 5'10" / 215 - Belle Glade FL (Legacy) 5*

Analysis---This season we saw what this offense will be based around, a strong running game. This group of recruits gives great hope to GatorNation that this will continue. Adam Lane came off a knee injury his junior season to dominate in his final year. His short stature, powerful lower body, and great running style give you the sense you are watching a high school version of MJD. Now if all of that can translate to college, Florida found themselves a true stud RB.
Now it would be a pretty decent class for UF if we had just signed Lane, but throw in a five star RB with an oppurtunity to get a good amount of carries as a freshman, and you have an A for group grade. I fully expect Kelvin Taylor to fight for carries and the starting role from last year's signee, Matt Jones. Taylor has the size, quickness, vision, balance, and overall skill set to make a bigger impact that Jones did in his freshman year.
Will this class along with Jones be able to make up for the loss of Gillislee in the 2013 season? I'm not sure about all that, but what i can tell you is that the future of the RB position is looking very bright (especially if we can sign one of the studs in the 2014 class, c'mon Jalen Hurd).
Grade Could Have Been Higher--- Now Kennard Swanson was a recruit that i was really hoping for, and one that i thought could maybe take over for Joyer after his career is over at UF. But like many promising recruits that had Florida atop their lists (Coley, Daniel, Hearns) he didn't do well enough in the classroom. Here's to hoping that he picks up his academics at a JUCO and transfers to UF after a couple of years.
2014 Needs: 2

TE- I (0)
Analysis---Would have been nice to get one with the transfer of Christian before the season started, but hopefully Taylor has a good spring, and Thompson comes back healthy and ready to play.
Muschamp will definitely have to pick up atleast two players capable of playing TE for UF in the '14 class to fill the void left by this year.
2014 Needs: 2

WR- A- (5)
Ahmad Fulwood - 6'4" / 189 - Jacksonville FL 4*
Chris Thompson - 6' / 170 - Gainesville FL 3*
Marqui Hawkins - 6'2" / 190 - Columbus GA 4*
Alvin Bailey - 5'11" / 170 - Seffner FL 4*
Demarcus Robinson - 6'2" / 195 - Peach County GA 4*

Analysis---In our dominating years in the 90's we had the best groups of recievers in the nation, during our NC years under Meyer we had Murphy (Panthers), Cooper (Eagles), Nelson (Bills), Harvin (Vikings), Caldwell (Bengals) all of whom start or play significant roles in the NFL, and now we do not have a single reciever on the team who would make an NFL roster (IMO).
If we want to get back to being a balanced, high scoring, exciting offense we will need some kind of playmaking threat on the outside. Bringing in Phillips as the WR coach was a good start to help out the young players on Florida's roster. The other big factor in this position's improvement will be the talent this class brings. And it should be immediate. I fully expect Fullwood, Robinson, and Bailey to get extensive playing time their freshman seasons while the others improve their skills.
If this class pans out and a few of these guys are able to make plays on the outside, then teams will no longer be able to put 8 and 9 in the box to stop the run. Expect a lot from Dunbar and Pittman next season, but other than that these frosh should be able to get in the ball game and NEED to make plays.
Grade Could Have Been Higher--- Missing out on James Clark within the last 24hrs hurt the position grade a little but the big thing was, that with the exception of maybe Robinson, none of these incoming freshman receivers will be a dynamic, game-changing, prolific type wideout in their first season. With that being said, I am very happy with the solid group of recruits; just wished their could have been that one SEC frosh sensation (Green, Jones, Cooper, Harvin).
2014 Needs: 3-4

OL- A (6) INCLUDING THE TWO TRANSFERS!!!
Roderick Johnson - 6'6" / 315 - Delray Beach FL 4*
Trenton Brown - 6'8" / 350 - Milledgeville GA (JUCO) 4*
Octavius Jackson - 6'4" / 285 - Moultrie GA 3*
Cameron Dillard - 6'3" / 285 - Canton MI 3*
Tyler Moore - 6'6" / 295 - Nebraska (TRANSFER) 4*
Max Garcia - 6'5" / 305 - Maryland (TRANSFER) 4*

Analysis---Between the last two classes Florida has only signed four total Olineman (Jordan, Thurman, Dunker, Humphries). That's way too few, and Muschamp knew it. I believe that Muschamp had in mind is signing 6 new linemen for next season. It also helps that his best recruiting job was done by getting two former big-time college starters (Moore/NEB and Garcia/MLD) to transfer to Florida.
This seems like a group that will not be asked to contribute right away (other than the transfers), and can hit the weights hard and get used to college life, instead of trying to block the likes of Jadaveon Clowney as a true frosh O-lineman should never have to do. I expect big things in the future from these recruits, and in the not so future for the transfers.
Grade Could Have Been Higher---This easily would have been an A+ had Tunsil signed with UF, but the odd fact that Tunsil had absolutely no desire to give UF a chance makes it understandable to strike out with him.
2014 Needs: 4

DT- B+ (4)
Caleb Brantley - 6'3" / 295 - Crescent City FL 4*
Darious Cummings - 6'3" / 305 - Mississippi (JUCO) 4*
Jaynard Bostwick - 6'4" / 291 - Port St. Lucie FL 4*
Jarran Reed - 6'4" / 305 - Mississippi (JUCO) 4*

Analysis---With Florida only having one DT from last year's class on the roster (Williams), this group needed to be good. The fact that Floyd and Hunter are leaving for the NFL leaves the interior of the line more suspect than last year. Thankfully this class brings immediate help as Reed, Brantley, and Cummings should both be able to find time in the rotation this year. I expect Cummings and Reed both to play a decent amount (about the same as Damien Jacobs did last season), and maybe see Brantley get about 10-20 snaps a game, but really come on and start in 2014 after Easley leaves. It definitely does help that Ivie should be able to bulk up and add enough muscle to slide inside and play some 3-technique every once in awhile.
Grade Could Have Been Higher--- Either of these two things could have helped Florida at the DT position in this year's class:
1. Somehow convincing Montravious Adams to sign with the good guys. Although he was a big time longshot for UF, Florida needs to sign a big time star DT to take over for the three 5* recruits (Hunter, Floyd, Easley) we will have lost between the '12 and 13' seasons. As good as solid DT's are, a great SEC D-Line needs some studs inside.
2. Signing Greg Gilmore. IF this great football player who sounds like a great young man with a good head on his shoulders in all of his interviews had chosen Florida over LSU than UF would have 3 solid incoming frosh DT's this class.
2014 Needs: 2-3

DE- B (2)
Joey Ivie - 6'4" / 270 - Dade City FL 4*
Antonio Riles - 6'4" / 262 - Lawrenceville GA 4*

Analysis---This group might be the hardest to put a letter grade on simply because it seems like both Ivie and Riles could put on some weight and move inside. With that being said, i am very happy to see our D-Line getting bigger and stronger not only on the inside at DT, but also at DE. Both of these players should be able to see playing time this year behind Bullard and Fowler at DE.
Grade Could Have Been Higher--- Elijiah Daniel, yet another great prospect in this class that didn't have the academic requirements to make it into UF. Elijiah Daniel would have been the cherry, on top of the icing, on top of the cake.
2014 Needs: 2

B- A- (1)
Jordan Sherit - 6'3" / 245 - Tampa FL 4*
Analysis---After Fowler's breakout freshman season, and getting Ronald Powell back from an ACL tear this season, as well as signing prospects with huge upside last year (Cox jr, McCallister), UF didn't need a stud here this year. They got one anyways. Fortunately for UF they have the options listed above for this season, as Sherit will have to recover from a ACL tear.
Grade Could Have Been Higher--- Knee injuries are always scary, especially when they happen to somebody so young. Hopefully he will recover fully, and be at full strength for the 2014 season when Powell is no longer at UF.
2014 Needs: 1

LB- A- (4)
Daniel McMillian - 6'3" / 220 - Jacksonville FL 4*
Alex Anzalone - 6'3" / 230 - Wyomissing PA 5*
Jarrad Davis - 6'2" / 225 - Kingsland GA 3*
Matt Rolin - 6'4" / 209 - Ashburn VA 4*

Analysis---With the loss of Bostic, and the surprising early departure of Jelani Jenkins, Florida needed a big shot in the arm in the linebacking corp. Thankfully this class has a couple of prospects in Anzalone and McMillian that sould fight for significant playing time right away. And UF also signs two prospects who might need a little bit more time to contribute due to injuries and rawness. Overall Muschamp and the staff did a remarkable job in bringing in skill and talent here.
With both McMillian and Anzalone enrolling early, look for them both to fill in for the losses of Bostic and Jenkins. Should be exciting to watch these two play in the coming years, starting with 2013.
Grade Could Have Been Higher---This position took a little bit of a hit when Hearns was informed that he couldn't sign with Florida due to his grades. Signing him would have given Florida yet another linebacker that was ready to compete for immediate playing time.
2014 Needs: 3

CB- A (1)
Vernon Hargreaves III - 5'10" / 177 5*
Analysis---Getting maybe the best prospect in the entire class regardless of position is a huge get. Hargreaves doesn't seem to have any weakness in his game, and the only thing that might be stopping him from coming in and starting as a freshman is the fact that there are a few talented and experienced corners already at Florida. Even with that being the case, expect to see him playing at some point this season.
Grade Could Have Been Higher--- Jalen Ramsey turning down UF's offer to instead sign with the FSU Seminoles is easy to brush off thanks to the fact that we signed the best corner in 2013. However, it would have been nice to have two corners in this class and have them both be talented five star studs.
2014 Needs: 3

S- A (3)
[b]Marcell Harris - 6'2" / 193 - Groveland FL (Legacy) 4*
Nick Washington - 6'0" / 180 - Jacksonville FL 4*
Keanu Neal - 6'0" / 200 - Bushnell FL 4*

Analysis---You want to talk about an amberassment of riches! Florida needs to replace both starting safeties this season, but with the talent that they are bringing in this class, they should be set in the backfield for years to come. Harris is a hard hitter who might be best suited to play close to the line like Elam did, while Washington looks more like the true centerfielder that RFN was. Meanwhile Keanu Neal, is just plain and simple a freak of nature. A very strong and fast physical specimen who has NFL bloodlines and should do some serious damage to opposing offenses.
Grade Could Have Been Higher---Muschamp could have found a loophole in the NCAA rules that granted RFN an extra few years of eligibility.
2014 Needs: 2

Let me know what ya'll think!!! If anybody even reads this super long post.

Go Gators!

Nice work. That's a lot of work and effort and you did well. I agree with a lot of what you wrote and I disagree on a bit.

If I had to grade them:

QB-- Max Staver- All Ive seen of him was the game he played on ESPN. And he stunk. In the very limited film Ive seen of him I would give QB a "C"

RB-- Kelvin and Adam- definitely an "A" for RB's. Kelvin is going to be an absolute monster. I would've loved to see us a RB in the mold of Alvin Kamara. Id like for us to add a speedster next year.

WR-- This was an excellent haul. D. Robinson is a tremendous signing. This kid will be a monster. I love the potential Fulwood seems to have. However, I fully expect/believe Alvin Bailey to have the best career after all is said and done. Alvin catches everything in sight, runs terrific routes, great leadership and he's extremely quick and shifty. I really dont know a whole lot about Hawkins and Coach Muschamp seems to think VERY highly of Chris Thompson. He can fly. I give the WR's an "A"

OL-- This is a terrific haul. The two transfers put this group over the top. I believe Rod Johnson is severley underated. Guy is huge and he can move. All of these guys seem to have tremendous upside. I'd give this group an "A".

DEFENSE:

DL-- The tackles are bad ass. If Brantley keeps his mind right he'll be a terror. Jarran Reed was an aboslute gift that we needed. I cant wait to see these kids play. But we need numbers here and we're getting closer. I give this group an "A-" Couldve been an A+ if we had a beastly pass rusher.

LB-- I love the size of these kids. Im glad Coach told Quinton Powell to pound sand. these kids are all 6'2"-6'3" 215+ When I saw Rolin commited to S carolina I was intrigued so I started watching film on him and he looked like a Mack truck out there. He's impressive. Daniel McMillan can play ball. We got 4 of THE BEST LBs in the nation.
Easily an "A"

CB-- VHIII--A+. Wouldve liked to sneak Mackensie Alexander and I truly felt as if we would but it didnt work out. Oh well. VHIII is amazingly talented. This kid is a MONSTER

Safety--Kiki, Marcell and Nick Washinton= A+. Nick is a bad ass. He took a leadership role when it came to recruiting and he delivered. Coach better send this kid a lifetime of free 5 star pizza for the work he did. Marcell and Kiki are hard hitters. can cover the slot and excellent tacklers. Easily an A+

NO punter no kicker= No problem this year.

Coach Muschamp and company did an amazing job at recruiting to our needs. He covered ALL the bases with some bad ass athletes. If he keeps up recruiting like this it'll be UF and Bama for a long time. I am extremely impressed with Coach and Im excited to see these kids hit the field. OVERALL CLASS= A

(Woud've given an A+ but I just dont think Staver is any good. And Im not sure he'll see the field here at UF)

Great Read. I'm excited about the offensive line, RB, and the entire defense as a whole. Outside of injuries, the entire defense seem physically ready to compete early.

O-line depth will definitely add more meat to a running game & the competition should help in the pass protection.

Great analysis.
However, didn't Kennard Swanson actually send an LOI into LSU? Means he won't be a Gator and we should move on at fullback.

First post on GatorCountry however I am an avid reader and figured I'd feel out this forum before I made an account. Anyway, here's my piece,

Overall, I'd have to grade this class an A.
I really wish we could have managed to get a better guy at QB. Not discrediting Staver fully, but if JD goes down we have two guys with rather sketchy mechanics. It would have been huge to get a guy that that didn't need as much work, with the potential to be successful early. This would have been a real luxury given our situation.
All that being said, I'm a fan of staver. He seems to be a true gator at heart, and a hard worker. Would like to see him be successful.

At Rb CWM and company did an awesome job. KT will be special, and Lane will contribute if he puts in the work.
I think KT enrolling early is huge. I'm A big fan but fully understand that there will be a big learning curve, KT is special but he hasn't seen the level of competition some other guys have seen. It's highly important to Note that KT competed against 2b/3a talent the majority of his high school career. However CWM has really spoke highly of his maturity so I'm sure he'll adjust and play at a high level early.

At WR, this class has the potential to be spectacular. All these guys appear to be hard workers and very coachable. CWM and company really made this position a priority and it's awesome to see how successful they were, I think Robinson will see the field quickest and really be successful. Fullwood is a huge get and if he puts in the work I see him being a huge mismatch that Pease will have a great time with. I'd really like to see Chris T and Alvin Bailey work hard and contribute on special teams early, eventually filling the role as speedy playmakers. HAwkins is probably my favorite out of them all bc of his physical presence. He is what I like to call a muschamp guy who works on every play. Alot of people are disappointed about missing on Clark, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't either, however this class is stacked at receiver and I'm not gonna lose sleep over it, I don't think CWM will either.

On the OL, we did a great job off adding depth along with some guys who can provide competition which is so important for being successful. Tyler Moore was a huge pickup. Being he was the only freshman to ever start as an offensive tackle for Nebraska, I think that speaks volumes on what this guy can do. Trenton Brown is an intimidating presence. I think if he puts in the work he can really be a special player. I won't specify any further on these guys. Collectively I think other than the 2 jucos we need to put on some size. And as a whole they seem a bit raw, no biggy though. Dillman will have these guys ready to go physically.

Wish I had time to do D right now, but let me know what you think!

Actually, the o line is quite large already. Rod Johnson is 6'6 315, and Octavious Jackson is 6'3 and at least 295. I think I read he's already over 300. Not small at all. RJ will likely get up to 335 for ideal playing weight in a year or two

Ahh. Thanks, I thought I read somewhere RJ was a little under 3. And yea I figured at 6'6 330 or better would be ideal.

Just watched the vid on Bailey and ...

I've heard talk that he's quicker than he is fast. But remember that that was true of Ike Hilliard, the best of the best receiving troika we ever had.

I agree. I truly feel Bailey will be the best WR we've had in a few years. He caught everything at the Opening and looked very good at his All Star game practices. Kid has beast written all over him. He also played extremely well in the playoffs for Armwood.

I completely agree with you. I am really excited about getting Demarcus Robinson, but Alvin Bailey has the skills to make a name for himself in G'ville.
