Channing,
Can you get any of the Four Peaks beers out of Tempe, AZ?
Rogue Irish Ale was great with some guiness braised short ribs for dinner.

Nope. Four peaks doesn't distribute into Florida. Glad you enjoyed the rogue though.

Last night was a bomber of Cigar City Cucumber Saison followed by Rodenbach Grand Cru (tasty).
The cucumber saison tasted just like eating cucumbers covered with black pepper.

Had a Paulaner hefewiezen w/some schnitzel on a train in Germany - a pretty good way to travel IMO. Most expensive beer on the menu was a Budweiser which I suppose makes sense given transportation costs.
The other beers I have sampled recently while on vacation that I remember are Hungarian pilsners that have been so-so (Soproni, Dreher).

Cucumber saison? Pretty decent, but wouldn't drink more than one in a sitting. Pretty much everything from Cigar City is good. Haven't had one bad beer from them.

Had it tonight. Definitely interesting. Pretty good, light and tasty, but not something I'd reach for all the time.

Ok tried the Southern Tier Choklat last night. I liked it and she found it had a little too much hops for her. She wants to try another Choklat.

Was having some bud light at the pool in between far too many shots of vodka.

I have Total Wine about 4 miles up the way. Awesome selection of beer and rum as well. The tienda across the street from on S Howard has an upstanding selection for a store it's size. I can get a sixer of Palm, Presidente or any offering Cigar City or Lagunitas has, pretty much. They don't carry Shiner anymore but pretty much have it all covered if in a pinch.

That's a long way to drive to get beer. I don't go more than a mile. Both Binny's and Whole Foods are about a mile away. I go to Whole Foods more because it's in the same strip center as Walgreens and Starbucks, and it's only a block away from Trader Joe's and my bank. It's also right by the train stop. The selection at WF isn't as big as Binny's, but it's very comprehensive. Price wise, it's almost identical to Binny's. Service wise, I get a little more personalized attention at WF. The beer buyer knows me and always points out new things that I might like. If something comes in that is going to go fast, he always sets some aside for me in the back. I almost never buy anything else at Whole Foods.
If I still lived in Tampa, I'd probably go to Total Wine. It's pretty far from where I lived, but it's in the corridor where I used to run a lot of errands. We lived right off the Hillsborough exit on the freeway and I drove my kids to preschool right off Bayshore, though I guess I wouldn't be doing that anymore since they just graduated from high school. I shopped at a Publix somewhere near Hyde Park. I had a lot more tolerance for driving distances back then. Everything is much closer together here.
You guys have no idea how good you have it with Publix. If they came to Illinois, they'd put the other two big chains out of business in no time.

Total Wine is for when I want to dig deep or get Presidente in the can for boating purpose. Also, I'll tie my rum run with it. Really, it is on my way to the gym and right around the corner from Cigar City so there's plenty of reason to go there. The Ranbow Mart across the street has excellent selection of craft and Belgians.
Yes, Publix rocks and I realize it every time I visit another city. Harris Teeter might be the only one that comes close.

Where on Howard is that? I'm trying to recollect that neighborhood, but it's been 13 or 14 years. Hope to be visiting friends down in Tampa this fall.
