We bought a Vizio a couple of years back. It started going black when we turned it on but you could turn it back off and wait a few 30 seconds or so and turn it back on and it would be OK. I called the company and they had me go through a routine and told me to see if that corrected it. It didn't and I called back a couple of months later. They informed me the 1 year warranty was out and furthermore they could find no ticket where I had called before. Luckily I had purchased the extended warranty and the company who had it didn't give me any grief. A repairman was out in less than a week but they still don't have it completely fixed even though they replaced the mother board.

As I informed the lady that I talked to during my 2nd call who worked with Vizio, I will never buy another one of their TVs. The TV having problems was one thing but them losing my work ticket form the 1st call was poor damn business.

My wife's uncle bought one identical to ours and the screen went totally black after a couple of weeks and stayed that way. It was fixed but that's really not the point.

Panasonic customer service was the exact opposite. They were helpful and swift. My plasma died after about two months to a known defect that popped up on some of the units. They had a local repair team out the same week I reported it and returned the tv to me about a week later in perfect working order.

a lot of those electronics are price well and work fine

the only problem is the amount of heat they produce

My father has a 60" plasma from Vizio and has never had any problems with it. He bought it in 2007 and wall mounted it over his fireplace. Other than the heat that they and other plasmas produce he couldn't be happier.

I bought a Vizio 42" LCD at the beginning of the last football season. I have had numerous problems with it, about a month of working find the sound would randomly go out while watching tv/ watching dvds/ anything that ran through the HDMI ports. I called Vizio and they sent a technician to take apart my whole tv and replace the speakers. The TV had been fine until about a month ago, the sound has started going out again. It can be fixed by muting and un-muting the sound but, It bothers me that a new TV has all of these problems.

I don't have an issue with them being deemed unrepairable, but at least give the consumer an option of buying a set at close to cost.

Sounds hit or miss, but I have a 50" plasma that I bought from Costco 5 years ago and haven't had a bit of problems with it. I bought a refurbished 32" LCD for my basement in January from TigerDirect and have also had no problems with it.
