The day the original iPad came out I happened to be in Best Buy and they had a couple extra. I didn't need one but I bought it anyway. Great decision! Wife and I use it more than our laptops.

Get two, they're small.
Seriously, get it. It's great for surfing on the couch, in bed, in the kitchen, on the toilet. Gaming apps are great with the larger (than iPhone) screen. Forward camera kicks butt for Skyping on the go...

Our youngest daughter started at a brand new just opened high school last week and all the students received an Ipad2. All the textbooks are downloaded to it and it is amazing to watch her use it at home. She takes all her classroom notes on it and all her assignments are downloaded to it so that if she were to miss a day of school, it would tell her what she missed and what work she had to do.

Not better, but different. When the original iPad came out I saw so many people bash it before release because they said it wasn't as good as a laptop and wasn't as good as a desktop so nobody would buy it. Well after selling millions of iPads I can tell you it fills a niche perfectly, easy internet access. I use it all the time when I want to surf the internet, quickly check my email, use various apps, type something quick. It doesn't replace my laptop which I use if I know I'm going to be doing a lot of typing but I certainly use the iPad more than the laptop. The best is the portability without having a bunch of heat pouring through the bottom.

Jerri and I each got one. You wouldn't believe how much reading we do on it since it's so easy to download a new book.
I use it all the time on the couch. Much more convenient than my laptop. I usually only need my laptop or desktop when I need more screen space and a mouse to do work or something more intense. For web and e-mail it's great.
The GC app is free, although I usually just use the web version since it fits fine on the ipad screen.
Free apps I use the most: Skype, Weather Channel, LogMein, iHeart Radio, Pandora, Facebook, Linkedin, Kindle, Futurama - head in a box
Paid apps I use: Sling Player, Orange and Blue, Olive Tree (Bible reader various versions available, also available for iphone)

I wish they would do that at my kids schools.

From the day you got here and every time I hear you speak and your excitement about coaching our Gators, working your tale off and being a straight shooter, you are now one of my all time favorite coaches. Thanks coach.

correct. I rarely find that to be a problem while surfing.

HTML5 may eventually solve that, but as Tom said, it's a minor inconvenience for most, I suspect.

The lack of Flash video hasn't been an issue, and if you can't live without it there are third party browsers like Skyfire that allows you to play just about any flash video content.
Some of the free apps I use regularly- Evernote, Epicurious, Allrecipes, BBC News, NPR, The Weather Channel, Pandora (although I upgraded to a paid account), Aweditorium, JustinTV, Netflix/Hulu + (along with the paid accounts), Plex (works seamlessly with the Plex media center app on my Macs), the Google app, Twitter, IM+, and Flipboard.
The iWork apps (Numbers, Keynote, and Pages) work very well on the iPad, and are pretty reasonably priced.

If you really want a good pad get one of these. There is nothing it can't do, no restrictions..... cost a little more but well worth it
Asus Eee_Slate_EP121
Comes with full blown Windows 7 64-Bit, uses a SSD, boots to desktop within 30 seconds, tether it through blue tooth to your cell phone and your connected to anywhere. Uses an Intel processor so it is fast... only downside to this tablet is battery life is on the low end at 3 hours.
