Celebration High School Football - Storm
Mods, sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, but it seemed like the most appropriate for my question. Please move it if it fits somewhere else.
My son's high school JV and Varsity football teams are heading to the Wide World of Sports complex to play Celebration's teams this Thursday. My son is a freshman and is not going, but I was wondering if anyone had any info about the school. No, I'm not looking for a scouting report, just curious if anyone knew some general info like whether they are state contenders at their level (I don't even know what level they play, but it appears their school size is similar to ours).
Also, any idea if anyone webcasts the games at WWoS?
My son goes to Monarch High School in Louisville, Colorado.

I know nothing about Celebration High but looking at their past record I would say they have absolutly zero chance of contending for a state championship until they get rid of Goofey as their head coach.
Seriously though, maxpreps has them ranked #441 in the state and considering they play in Division 7A which will probably be the toughest division in the state this year they do have zero chance of contending. My guess is your sons team chose Celebration because it would be an easy win and a chance to visit Disney World.

Well, that is certainly promising for our team. We are generally a top 5 to top 10 team in 4A here in Colorado (we go to 5A, and our school is right under the cutoff of 1640 - I think we have about 1550 or so students this year).
I don't think our coaches picked the match up - just had the opportunity to approve or reject it. This is all done through KSA - apparently this is some kind of "zero week" festival/tournament/hootie they do every year, but this is the first time our school has participated - although they generally play an out of state game every year somewhere - the past two years have been California and Arizona. They say they try to match up the teams based on school size and prior history, but who knows how much they actually try.
Thanks for the input. Completely forgot to look at MaxPreps - gotta go take a look at where we are!

All I can say about Celebration is that it's a weird little town. Took a brief tour after a job interview years ago. Didn't see the high school, but it's hard to imagine a community like this having a good football team. No football history and not much diversity.

So, any chance anyone around there will be heading to WWoS to watch some of the games? I haven't had any luck finding an online outlet that will update scores other than the finals.

Well, I guess that went well for our team, but I don't think it was any more than a fun trip. I hope the kids built some confidence, because the game didn't present a challenge for them. Thanks for the input, folks. Hopefully if the coach decides to do this again when my son is JV or varsity, there will be a bit better match up.
Never heard the JV score; although, I know they won. The varsity score was 54-0.
For those interested in following a Freshman Gator fan in Colorado - he plays for Monarch High School in Louisville, Colorado and I am probably going to join MaxPreps just to keep the Freshman team scores up to date (yep, I am a helicopter dad some times - just usually been the coach as they were growing up).

So, to bump this thread for obviously self-serving gratification - my son played a bunch of JV and about 5 games of varsity football (3rd string) this season as a sophomore. Fullback (his best position) and inside linebacker (his preferred position) at both levels. A few noted yards running and catching on Maxpreps (a parents dream to see their kid's name and stats online!).
His team won a state championship this season and he (and I) feels like he was an integral part as a time consuming player and scout team animal! Just want to toot my son's horn - he is a good kid and takes it seriously!
I have no illusions about his ultimate potential - he will ultimately be a good high school football and lacrosse player that will ultimately go to college on my dime. But man, I can't even begin to imagine the fun he is having right now! I never played on a team that sniffed state greatness and he has been there already and has so many more opportunities! #livingvicariously (and loving it!)

If he's a good student, don't rule out the possibility of sending him to a good D-3 school mostly on their dime. Those are typically not athletic scholarships, but they find money for promising athletes who meet their academic standards. The higher the academic standing of the school, the more money there is laying around. Have two friends with kids at Grinnell in Iowa, one whose son is playing basketball and the other whose daughter is playing soccer. Grinnell outbid Williams for the basketball player. I believe Katie had an offer from Wash. U, but Grinnell came in with decent money and a better chance of playing time. FWIW, Warren Buffett recently donated a few hundred million to the school. I'd check small northeastern lib arts schools for Lacrosse, Vassar, Bard, Colgate and Hamilton are all good schools with decent sports programs. The Midwest lib arts schools are good for football; Oberlin, Kenyon, Macallaster, Carleton and Knox. Some good football schools in the south too; Davidson, Washington and Lee, Sewannee and Rhodes. For either sport, you gotta look in your own back yard. Colorado College is an awesome school and a has serious dedication to athletics. Friend of my daughter's is a freshman on their soccer team. He has D-1 skills. I know he got some money.
