Default Is my monitor going to die

After a while the monitor goes black but it is still on. Then when i power cycle the monitor it stays on for a couple seconds then goes black again.

If I reboot the computer the monitor will stay on for a while. Does not look like anything is happening with the CPU, could it be a setting in windows putting the monitor to sleep or is the monitor about to die?

There is a setting in Windows to put your monitor to sleep, but if this setting was getting triggered then you would easily be able to wake it back up (shake mouse, press a key). I'd guess that the monitor is going bad on you.

If you have another monitor available to borrow temporarily, you could hook it up to the PC and try it out. If the problem disappears then your other monitor is the culprit.

As usual, Steel has given excellent advice and information. If Windows is turning off the display it will be in the Power Options in the Control Panel. It is very rare and strange to have the display turn off in just a couple of minutes in the Power Options but it is possible.
I assume that pressing the menu button on the monitor doesn’t bring anything up on the screen since you didn’t mention that.

Thanks for all the advice, I do not have another monitor to test with and going with it is is crapping out on me.

Went to the store today and saw a Viewsonic 24 inch LED monitor for 179, they were out of stock but got a raincheck. Maybe i can use it as an excuse to get a bigger better monitor.

If you have a TV with an RGB input (like most LCDs) - set your screen resolution to a low enough value to use that (should be in the TV manual as to the highest it will support) - hook the computer to the TV and test it to see if you have the same problem

If it is not failing you likely have a monitor going bad

When the monitor turns black, does the power indicator remain active?
