Default Pelosi's Plan--buy in or face 5 yrs

"Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain 'acceptable health insurance coverage' and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years."

http://republicans.waysandmeans.hous...umentID=153583

As I understand it, this is really a tax in disguise. The govt is forcing young people to buy health insurance they don't need or want so insurance companies can give insurance to people who are uninsurable. No real difference between this and taxing young people to provide health insurance for others.

(As an aside, things like this are one reason I oppose the Fairtax. Govt will just replace taxes with mandates like this.)

That'd be ridiculous if true. But. as we've seen over and over, Republican congressmen routinely make announcements of these things that aren't true. So it's hard to know.

Is the alleged HR 3962 as amended posted anywhere on-line, seems pretty simple to verify the langauge in the bill.

I would say the American people are going to get what we deserve for voting an inexperienced ultra liberal in, but McCain wasn't very appealing either. At least McCain would do less harm.

I think McCain would have ultimately done more harm. He would be compromising so much everything would still be going to hell, and the Pubs would get blamed for it instead of the Dems.

If this passes we will soon find out because I won't be paying any mandated tax for not having health insurance.

I will not pay to buy the freedom given to me as a gift by my Creator.

The mandate tax most certainly seems to be in the bill, specifically in Title V, Subtitle A, Part I, Subpart A, Section 501. This link should take you directly to the section in question that amends the Internal Revenue Code: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/...SkUzd:e365587:

I suppose, then, the only question remaining is whether the IRS will prosecute folks if they refuse to pay the freedom killing tax. Is the report true or false in that respect? Only time will tell, IMO.

Then come and get me Nancy, cause I aint playing'.

If this monstrosity, freedom-ruining bill is passed, the utter disaster it will cause in public uproar and outright violence will be unreal... and believe me, it will if it passes.

First the thought police, now the Dems bring us the debt police. I thought they didn't like authority.

Be sure that you finish the job. You do not want to get arrested, tried, convicted, and jailed.

At this point I really don't care. They've already taken so much of my freedom that it means basically nothing to me.
