Fair enough. At least no suspension.

And I can't find one just yet. Evidently it's really breaking news.

Anyway, sounds fair. Silve issued his warning and Meyer criticized, so a fine was warranted. On the other hand, Meyer's criticism was fairly sedate and in no way impugned the integrity of the conference or its officials. Also, it was a first offense; Meyer didn't even say anything about Leak's "fumble" after the Auburn game in 2006. So a suspension would have been over the top.

It certainly sends a message. Not a major amount of money. The question is are there more penalties to come today?

Yikes. I thought the SEC needed to do something to him given their recent memo against criticizing officials. But 30K? That's big, I would have assumed a figure in the 5K-10K range.

Not too bad IMO. For what he said the fine deserved to be a little closer to $1, but Slive had to lay down the law on someone.

Great. At least it won't be about Brandon or how Gators benefit from the referees' mistakes anymore. That probably was Meyer's goal to start with. Mission accomplished.

Slive had to do something. He started this mess by publicly saying the celebration penalty was wrong against UGA and it has been downhill snowball since.

$30k is too much for what Meyer said and how he said it. Slive better fine Kiffen $100,000 next time he shoots off his mouth.

Agreed. But Kiffin should be suspended for what he said about Meyer this week.
