"I didn't want to say in case he wouldn't fancy me," Kordeza confessed.

"It's normal for our girls to have babies young," said Kordeza's grandmother Dida, 55. "It's our tradition. But I didn't want it for my Kordeza - I felt she was too young."

The family planned a three-day Roma wedding so Kordeza and Jeliazko could be married before the baby arrived.

I lived in Bulgaria for two years... and the sad thing is... this is not the exception to the rule. I know sometimes we think that we are promiscuous over here... but over there it is a whole different ballgame. If you haven't had sex in their culture by the time you are 12, you are a social outcast... such an interesting, interesting place. I knew three gypsy girls that were pregnant at the age of 12 and 13, having 5 or 6 kids by the time that they were 18. Absolutely insane. But why do they do it? The last paragraph explains it all, the government money they get for having babies, which is why it isn't rare to see a gypsy family with ten or so little kids running around.

Wow that is insane! I have a daughter one year older than that, and I can't imagine her having a baby.
