Default Meyer Could Get A Public Reprimand From The SEC

Meyer should have kept this between UF and the SEC but he has publicly spoken out against the officials today which is a violation...The more he talks, the longer this is going to continue. So, this soap opera goes on...

I completely agree with how Meyer feels but we won and it's time to let it go by saying no comment to the media today. You can't continue to dwell on something in the past.

“That should have been a penalty, in my opinion,” Meyer said on the weekly Southeastern Conference coaches teleconference. “You’ve got to protect quarterbacks. That’s the whole purpose. It’s right in front of the referee.”

This is going to be real interesting. There is no doubt that this quote represents Meyer publicly criticizing an official, which is supposed to draw a suspension from the SEC office. He just put Slive in a real tough position. Slive is going to have to suspend Meyer for this. If he doesn't, the charges of favoritism towards UF will really hit the roof. If he does suspend him, maybe people will stop with all the talk about us getting preferential treatment. Hopefully he is suspended just for the FIU game, if any.

So, it was in Dan Mullen's opinion as well when he spoke out after UF played them. The same goes for Kiffin.

Meyer has not had a warning letter mailed to him like Kiffin received. If anything, Meyer will get a public reprimand letter first which is a warning that if you do it again you could be suspended. By the way, Slive is a former judge and won't tolerate any nonsense by any coach.

Thats a real headscratcher answer by Urban. A simple "no comment" would be my only answer to any penalty questions. I would follow up with a "next person to ask about penalties will not be allowed to ask anymore questions this year."

If he got suspended, I wouldn't be suprised a bit.

Given the recent decrees from Slive, why would Meyer say that? Honestly, these coaches need to keep their mouths shut, and go through the proper channels. I'm really tired of all this nonsense.

Meyer is a master. He is trying to get suspended for a game so that Coach Strong can get some head coaching experience before the season is out. Just like Norman Dale did in Hoosiers.... "throw me out of the game or I'll start screaming like a madman". "Well, I guess you've got your reasons, you're outta here!"

Meyer will be suspended for a game and Kiffin will say "Yaa yaa yaa yaa YAAAA yaa!"

The main problem the SEC wanted to address was the ridiculous comments by Kiffin that the refs favored Bama and UF, those were the ones really targeted...

and even though Mullen and Petrino both were commenting on one call when they were reprimanded, they did it in a much more emotional and grandstanding way than Myeyer did, Mullen and Petrino were trying to rile up their fan base, I think Mullen said the ref should be fired or suspended...Meyer's comment is tame in comparision...

Meyer may get a letter reminding him not to speak out in public

It seems like our team/players/coach continue to shoot themselves in the foot, doesn't it?

Meyer's comments are tamer than Kiffin's and the others, but the SEC can't ignore this. Once Urban said "Its right in front of the referee" that turned it into criticizing the officials for missing the call. Unfortunately, the SEC probably needs to suspend Urban given their recent stance following Kiffin's remarks.

If that's the case, then shouldn't Tennessee have already faced repercussions because of Ogeron's comments?:

Quote:
from: http://collegefootball.about.com/b/2...-favorites.htm

"Said Orgeron: "Seems like some people get the calls and some people don't. I've been in this league and I've been a part of that. Whether that's true or not, you can never prove that. ... I do know this: there were some very questionable calls in that game that could have went either way and they went Alabama's side. There were very questionable calls throughout the season and it seems they go for the better team."

Orgeron's accusations came on the exact same day that his boss, Vols head coach Lane Kiffin, was reprimanded by the league for his criticism of the officiating in the 'Bama game."

According to Slive's letter to Kiffin:

Quote:
"The next time you, or a member of your staff, make public comments of this nature, you will be suspended from all coaching duties for one or more games, and the institution may be subjected to a substantial fine."
Why hasn't anything happened to Tennessee yet?

Orgeron's comments were on the same day as Kiffin's. Those comments prompted that letter from Slive.

Really? I thought it was crystal clear that the next coach who questioned the officials would face severe penalty. That's exactly what Meyer did. I dont remember a coach in the SEC who has been suspended? If this gets public, Slive may have his hands tied.

It would be weird if he did, but can you imagine how fired up the team would be against Vandy if he were suspended? We'd win by 70.

BTW, if Meyer gets any reprimand whatsoever from Slive, I'll lose any respect I had left for him. Meyer's comment is so benign that it's laughable that anyone would think he should be reprimanded or suspended.
