Default Wouldn't this move help recruiting BIG TIME?

I think that this move would help us land the defensive recruits that have been hesitating about giving their verbal commitment to the Gators. The press release should read like this:

"Right before their SEC Championship Game against the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Florida Gators announced that Charlie Strong has been given a contract extension until 20__ making him one of the highest paid defensive coordinators in the Nation. The contract includes a clause stipulating that if Urban Meyer ever leaves (hopefully won't happen) coach Strong will become the Head Football Coach of the Gators."

Welcome home Powell, Floyd, Luc, Hicks, Shaw, Fulton/Riggs, Martin, Jefferson

Just saying...It would be a great PR move that would be a kick in the nuts to Lame Kitten or whomever is doing some negative recruiting with Gator recruits.

There is a buzz that if Georgia sacks Richt this year, then Charlie Strong would be their leading contender.
There are 2 reasons behind this buzz
- If you can't beat Florida, you can't coach at UGA no matter what success you have. They simply won't tolerate losing to the gators for long. Coach Donnan lost his job due to it. I don't think he had below an 8 win season.
- Strong is the most overlooked coach for a reason and this would also mean taking out one of the best coaches from gator football and reduce the gator dominance.

I wish UM and Foley would do their best to hold Strong.

Interesting- it all depends which colleges give him offers at the end of the season.

any talk about Coach Strong taking over for Coach Meyer would lead to more talk about Coach Meyer leaving soon.

I don't know about the whole coach in waiting thing, but I sure hope we can entice him to stay . . .

if UGA fires Richt they are stupid! I am not a fan of his, but he is a hell of a coach and recruiter.

^Agree to disagree. Kelly would do wonders in Athens imo. I hope they never figure it out.

Having a coach-in-waiting is one of the most shrewd and well thought out things a football program can do.

Charlie will not be the next coach at UF if Urban leaves.

MR and UM are not going anywhere, so if Strong was to leave it would be to another program. He would only leave for an HC job, and it would have to be a situation where he is positioned for success. While that could happen, it is a pretty tall order, and I expect CS will be around for a long time. I hate the coach in waiting thing, but assistant HC, co-HC or some other title could help. However, the biggest thing is money. He likes his situation at UF, and if you could give him a significant raise, it would take most of the smaller schools out of the picture. I still think he would leave for the right situation, but a good title and more money could help him be much more selective....

The Zook-haters (and really, who can blame them) on the Illinois boards are dying for Strong.

I don't know what Strong is making but I wouldn't go anywhere if I were him. I am sure it's great money and he gets great weather year round plus job security.

Rumor up here in Charlottesville (UVa) is that Al Groh prob will be out this year, and Strong is very high on their list. Then again, Groh seems to win just enough to keep his job!
