Default Gruden on MNF is Great!

This is to counter the thread on Insider entitled 'Gruden of MNF is unbearable.'

Nonsense, he's great. He's candid and funny as hell. What, do you want Tony Kornheiser back ? Give me a break.

He's great compared to the utter dryness of Troy Aikman on Fox.

I think Gruden does a fine job. I also think far too many people get far too concerned about the announcers on MNF. Let's face it: there are always announcers that some of us don't like. Similarly, there are always announcers that some of us especially enjoy. What we want to avoid are the guys that we pretty much all dislike. Certainly, Gruden isn't on that list.

Now, Cornheiser, Limbaugh, Dierdork .... anyone ... anyone ....

Aikman is terrible. In the other Gruden thread, the poster talked about butt kissing. I would be willing to bet that Buck kisses Aikman's butt more in one quarter than Gruden kisses all other subjects in an entire game.

But, the worst, BY FAR, is Charles Davis. During the NO/Mia game, you could tell he hadn't watched a Miami game all year or did any film study to prepare for that game.

I don't know how it is possible, but Aikman is even dryer than Joe Buck. Moose Johnson is more entertaining than him, but then you have to deal with Tony the Goose interrupting all the time. Phil Sims is a little dry and too cautious for my tastes. I like Collingsworth/Michaels on NBC. Last night was the first time I saw the new Monday Night team. I thought it was better than it has been, and the best since they moved to ESPN. At least Gruden stays focused on the actual game.

Charles Davis called one of our BCS championship games on Fox didn't he? Fox has done a disservice to college football.

You illustrate my point here. Personally, I think Aikman is well above average. I know at least another couple of friends who think the same way. We were just talking about this last week. For the record, I also like Collinsworth, and not just because he'a a former Gator.

And on the college level, for all the griping that goes on about Lundquist and Danielson, I think that Bill Curry is the absolute worst announcer there is. Bob Davie is a distant second, but awful as well.

Lastly, I like the way that no matter how many different names they try to use and how many different sponsors sign on, the Saturday afternoon SEC crew is always the same crappy, unprofessional guys -- all of the "Daves" among them, whether it was Jefferson Pilot, Raycom or Lincoln Financial.

If you think the early SEC game broadcasts are bad, you should watch the early ACC games.

I do, I just don't have the volume up. I have the early SEC game on with volume, and the ACC or Big 10 game without. It's hard for me to comment on the ACC guys, but if you are in any way supporting that crew from Raycom -- or whatever they are calling it this week -- then I feel sorry for you. You obviously have no idea what is going on. They are the pits. P-I-T-S, Pits, Pits, PITS!

The ACC broadcasts are even worse. Just sayin'

It doesn't help that the teams are unwatchable most of the time either.

Gruden is what I consider a positive announcer. The vast majority of his comments are pointing out positive things that are happening on the field. Sure, he says a negative thing here and there, but mostly he raves about good plays and good players.

If that is butt kissing, I guess I'll take it. As far as I can see, he spreads the love pretty evenly. He is funny and usually when he actually talks X's and O's, he is spot on.

Way better than a lot of announcers.

If they would replace Mike Tirico with Al Michaels, this group would be the best trio in football, imo.
