Default Time To Talk Vanderbilt

I've had it with the talk of Tim Brando, Heisman polls, NuKeese Richardson, BCS rankings, and YouTube videos of Brandon Spikes' transgressions against those poor, 'wittle' defenseless doggies.

UGA is now history, toast, passe', whipped, whooped, spaded, and neutered.

I'm ready to talk Vanderbilt.

Option anyone?

Georgia Tech killed Vandy with the option Saturday, but their complete lack of a defense still allowed 31 Vandy points in a 56 - 31 home loss for the Commodores to the Yellowjackets in Nashville. It's the first time Vandy has allowed 34 points this year.

Aparently, QB McKenzie Adams may be hurt and is presently questionable for UF. Vandy has some good athletes here or there, but UF went into Nashville last year and blew the 'Dores out in the first half and cruised the rest of the way with their reserves to clinch the SEC East Title with a 42 - 14 victory.

Well, the Gators return home to The Swamp for a night game against the 'Dores after a couple of hard road games.

Expect the Gators to run the option at Vandy a lot this Saturday and pound it's RB's relentlessly at them. Mix in some pass and good special teams, and I think the Gators overwhelm Vanderbilt Saturday with their depth and speed.

The most interesting thing about this match-up to me is to see if we can build upon the great offensive start we had against UGA. I'd love to watch us mix it up real well and drive for a couple of early scores (give me at least one serious "I" formation drive), and then pound the 'Dores and contain them with good defense and special teams and just wear them down. I'd like to watch some forced TO's by the Gator D in this one too.

Vandy has some talent, but they took it on the chin this past weekend and are the SEC's cellar dwellar. Will they be up to try and upset the nation's #1 team and longest active win streak?

Florida - 45

Vanderbilt - 6

If this one's close it'll say something very bad at us. Vanderbilt is really crummy this year. They're not even in that kinda-sorta-decent-if-you-squint area they've staked out the last few seasons. I imagine this will be a conservative, vanilla gameplan.

On the plus side, we might get our first shutout of the year.

somewhat off topic - but is Rainey expected to be good to go for Vandy?

Expect a heavy dose of the dive play, because this is one of those games where it will work since Vanderbilt is outclassed all over the field.

With or without Spikes, the defense can expect to hold Vanderbilt to very few points, i.e. 10 or fewer. Their offense has been rather inept most of the year, the GaTech game was an aberration. I thought Urban should have suspended Spikes for the whole game since he isn't needed this weekend, but that's a topic for another thread. Their QBs have only completed about 48% of their passes on the year. Me thinks our secondary will have a field day against this team.

I think Vandy scored so much on GT because the 'Jackets' defense is extremely bad. Several teams have scored at will on Tech's defense this year, so Vandy is no real difference.

Vandy will scramble their QB around a lot trying to make a play, but the Gators are just too fast and disciplined on defense, and honestly, the only way the 'Dores stop the Gator offense is if they stop themselves IMO.

Yellow Jackets is two words. (It was the coat, before it was the bee)

and yes our defense was horrible in the first half. Complete inability to tackle.
3 pts allowed in the 2nd half after a freak reception.

Warren Norman is for reals...Vandy had great speed. And really defended most of the option stuff well. Good side to side pursuit.

Possibly UF could come out throwing, then switch to give the tailback more of the load.

Though honestly, FLA's dline will control this game...and Vandy's offense probably won't matter.

Ah, spelling police now.

I wasn't refrerring to their coats, I was referring to their waspy mascot.

Btw, kudos on the win Doak v.s. FSU. Two years in a row v.s. the nolies.

After enduring the savaging of the Yellow Jackets during my undergad years, these last two games versus FSU have been glorious. I was in Doak when we absolutely blew the win in 1999 with Joe Hamilton.

If only they hadn't knocked Josh Nesbitt out of the game last year, we were well on the way to blowing out Ol' Bobbeh on Grant Field.

I was in Nashville Saturday, I think it will be a game similar to the Kentucky game. FLA should really just try to get up early, then let the defense feast. Tackle well, and their offense will make mistakes.

Anyone who was upset about not getting to see Brantley throw against UGA (myself included) will have no reason to complain about this game.

UF should focus on its passing game this week. This is a perfect opportunity to iron out some wrinkles and then they can use next week to work on their run game.

Read in today's Tampa Trib that Vandy's QB is out for the rest of the year with a muscle tear and the back-up will be making his first start....on the road...against Florida....ranked #1...in a Swamp night game.

Hoo-boy!

http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/nov...lleges-gators/

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt has lost starting quarterback Larry Smith for the final three games with a partially torn left hamstring, and that means Mackenzi Adams will make his first start this season Saturday night against top-ranked Florida.
Coach Bobby Johnson said Monday that an MRI revealed some tearing in Smith's hamstring. Smith pulled up at the end of a 35-yard run in last weekend's 56-31 loss to No. 10 Georgia Tech. Johnson said Smith would be out at least four weeks, and Vanderbilt (2-7, 0-5 Southeastern Conference) wraps up the season Nov. 21 against Tennessee.
"This is a pretty significant injury," Johnson said.

Adams is a serviceable replacement, with lots of experience, I just don't think he has great mobility. According to that article, their left tackle may be out as well. That could be the bigger loss, as a Mr. Carlos Dunlap plays right DE. I smell a sack or four in Dunlap's future. This game won't be close. Gators by 30 or more, with lots of work for Brantley.

THANK GOD! I agree with you 100%. In addition to the topics you brought up, I'd also include the dozens of posts regarding our inept offense and how "bad" we are. It's funny, or sad, how one game makes many of those negative nellies believers again. All the negative threads and posts are, or were, getting old. The fact is we're 8-0, ranked #1 and it's GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!

As far as the game, I agree with SJB612 in that Adams is an adequate replacement. Although we drilled them, he started last year's game as well as the last time they visited the Swamp. It won't help him much but he did experience our defense and our environment before. He'll have at least something to work off of.

I think that our offense is getting ready to explode. Our passing game gained confidence last week and our running game is always a threat. I'd love to see us have at least 3 of our backs ready to go. How cool would it be for us to have all of them to have career days during the same game! Our opponents can't keep athletes like we have down for too long. I feel sorry for the team that takes the brunt of it when it happens and I believe it will be Vandy.

Go Gators! Beat Vandy!

You guys got utterly robbed that year when Hamilton was QB. FSU's final drive was culminated on two HUGE, blatant holds that kept FSU's drive alive. I still remember hearing the boo's from the GT faithful in the stands about the no-calls they were so loud.

Apparently, according to Meyer, both Rainey and Gillislee could play Saturday.

Looks like we dodged a major injury bullet with them, but unfortunately, it looks like DT Antwine may possible have another shoulder surgery ahead of him. Poor guy, I've never seen a kid hurt as many times as him and he just comes right back again.

Love that kid. Proud he's a Gator.

I haven't seen Vandy play this year. I'm not excited about another night game on ESPN2, but at least it is in the Swamp. I hope the team comes out focused and ready to play, and I guess we'll see. It feels like everyone is rooting against UF, so I'm very glad this game is at home. Very glad...

Wow, really good news on Rainey. I thought with the way they had that shoulder wrapped, he had either dislocated it or tore something.

I hope we dont revert to conservative dive plays all game long again. We should continue to open up the offense and keep up the offensive momentum we started against UGA. I dont think we are good enough to turn on and off the switch at will. Personally I hope we breakout a big lead and let Brantley in for some drives in the 2nd half.

I agree our defense will be fine against Vandy without Spikes.
