Did we get rid of the Gator Getters?

I remember seeing them in the 1980s. Do they exist but just in a more subtle way? I saw this in a Google search I did a while ago - Time magazine Jan. 21, 1974:

The most seductive sell may be offered at the University of Florida, where visiting prospects are entertained by the "Gator Getters," a group of coeds organized to escort prospects to games, meals and dances. Rumors abound that high school athletes courted by Florida "can't miss."

We did not get rid of them. They still have them but they are not called gator getters. They do a great job for the gators. They are well trained, and very proffessional.

Feldman wrote about this kind of thing in Meat Market. Ole Miss has a similar bunch of women, and they are quite explicitly told what not to do with recruits.

Some of the recruits didn't get the memo, apparently. One of the Ole Miss hostesses was interviewed by Feldman, and she told him about this one recruit who was polite, courteous and quiet all weekend. Then on Sunday night he just blurts out, "So, you wanna take a shower together?"

Yes, but what he did had little to do with Gator Getters.

Well, that seems like a "polite" way to address the copulance phenomenon ().

The alumni office doesn't keep track of the gator getters, but I was one from 79-81, when Pell was losing BIG time!

A bunch of us still keep in touch and run into each other. There is now a facebook page for gator getters only.

Lisa Spurrier was a Gator Getter! Interesting. And I knew Nicole Cassisi, but when she was in missle school.
