What are you talking about? We had exactly ONE year out of the last TWENTY years where we were just barely above .500. We are 52-15 in the last 5 years.

How does that equal struggling year to year to stay above .500?

This. During Meyer's tenure, our assistant coaches were significantly underpaid when compared with their SEC counterparts. While we have improved that somewhat, we still lag behind some of our SEC rivals. Why? There is no excuse for it.

Alabama lost two assistants to FSU, and Kirby Smart is now talking to the Eagles.

Maybe this will focus Muschamp on the defense to the degree that he lets Pease have more free reign on O.

(That comment assumes the rumor/idea that Will was handcuffing Pease to some degree.)

Yeah, but Smart was making a whole lot more money at Bama than Quinn was at UF. I'm not sure he goes anywhere. We HAVE to pay our assistants comparable to our SEC rivals.

Did we lose many assistants during Meyer's tenure? I don't remember there being significant staff losses during his time.

Consistency starts with the head corch.
If these were lateral moves you might have a problem.
The only lateral move we have had is with Meyer and the corches who left to go to O$U with him.

It hurts our ability to sustain any sort of continuity in what we're doing. I suppose every school around the league has dealt with it on some level over the last five years. Heck, six years ago Houston Nutt was at Arkansas, Saban was screwing Miami over, Tuberville was considered one of the elite coaches in the SEC, Meyer won his first national title in Gainesville, Phil Fulmer hadn't yet played in his final SEC championship game, and Ed Orgeron wasn't pulling his shirt off in front of Tennessee players quite yet. Gus Malzahn was still a high school coach, Bob Petrino wasn't anywhere even close to being hired-or fired-at Arkansas, and the whole league looked a lot different.

The only way to really fix a problem like what we're experiencing, would be to hire candidates with ties to Florida. I think Pease will be gone within the next year or two so, all joking aside, maybe Muschamp should look into giving Kerwin Bell a shot. I was hoping Aubrey Hill would work out, but he didn't. I don't know how else we're really going to stop this.

We dont pay on the high scale, Bama has deeper pockets, or Invests in their Coaches.

This is ridiculous. Dan Quinn coached 10 years in the NFL. He was given the chance to become an NFL DC (replacing a guy who, guess what, just got an NFL head coaching job) with one of the premier groups of defensive players in the NFL. Are we going to pay him $1M just to force Paul Allen to open his checkbook again?

And Alabama, for what its worth, has probably had more turnover than we have during Saban's tenure. He hasn't earned a reputation for being an insufferable perfectionist by accident. Coaches go to him, get worked to the bone (most position coaches last about 2-3 seasons for him), then get spit out with the Saban stamp for a better job. Sure, he has some favorites that have stuck around for awhile (OL in particular) - but his major recruiters (DE, LB, Secondary, RB, WR) I believe have all left pretty frequently, with Lance Thompson being the only guy I remember coming back for a second go-round.

I'm not saying turnover doesn't happen elsewhere; it has just happened a lot lately in Gainesville.

It'd just be nice to have a little continuity once in a while. That's probably unrealistic these days, but I'd just like to a high-profile name come in and not have one foot out the door as soon as he arrives. Then again, if nobody wants your coaches, that probably means they aren't really doing a great job.
