Social Security has been around for what ~ 80 years? I'm sorry, but no human thinks this long term (i.e. longer than a person's life span) WRT achieving any specific goal. Moreover, I'm not even sure you could point to a coherent strategy of "the left" to achieve any massive overarching goal, because liberals, centrists, social democrats, and those on the radical left all have different priorities, outlooks and goals and don't often agree with each other on what is achievable and how to go about it.

If Romney had united conservatives even to normal voting numbers, he would have slammed Obama. The problem with him was he didn't portray himself enough as a conservative. I think Rubio can with the right platform. I don't think Christie can because he's too much of a butt sniffer to Obama. He's questionably been leaning left lately and that will come back and bite him.

christie/rubio (in that order) would make an excellent ticket... i am not a believer in legislators moving immediately into an executive role... governors generally and big state governors specifically, make for better presidents...
