I'm in agreement--a lot of people seem to think you could just casually switch between different MOSs..and the reality is that it isn't that easy and you're much more likely to piss off your CO than them actually approving of a switch.

He quit his job prior to the requirement to get full retirement benefits. That's his choice. His intentions were noble, but we can't give full benefits to everyone that has a noble reason for retiring.

I'm not going to say he should have stayed in or left. He literally FOUGHT for the right to make the choice. I just hope anyone in shoes similar to his does his research and knows the pros/cons and everything in between for each decision.

What I never understood about the Navy is that Seals get the same retirement based on pay grade as someone like a cook with the same rank. They do make a sh&$load more money with all the hazard pay and additional pay incentives while they are in. I always felt special ops guys should be awarded 1.5 years for every year served. Then these guys can get 75% of their pay for retirement after 20 instead of 50% or be rewarded retirement after 15 years. Anyway you look at it is that this whole thing seems odd. First it was Bissonnette who came out and now this. These guys are suppose to be quite professionals and for two guys from ST6 to go public, makes no sense. It completely flies in the face of what they are taught.

To the best of my knowledge, the actual shooter has remained anonymous and took particular pains to avoid disclosing anything to compromise operational security. The article noted that what Bissonnette did was--and is--very much frowned upon in the community.
