Default Know your SEC favorite: Florida Gators

From a UMo site:

Quote:
According to both Ken Pomeroy's stats and the naked eye, Florida has the best offense Missouri will face this season and the second-best defense (behind Louisville's). Their per-possession season averages are basically what Missouri did to Nicholls State (Mizzou had 1.20 points per possession, NSU had 0.87), only the Gators have come up with that average while playing teams like Wisconsin, Arizona, Marquette, Kansas State and Florida State.

With the way we play defense if our guys get hot shooting the ball early it's going to be a tough road trip for Missouri.

Here is a UMo analysis of their play against UGa:

Quote:
A win is a win is a win. And every win is a good win. But (There is always a but, isn't there?) when trying to formulate an accurate picture of how this game unfolded, it is critical to factor in just how poor a team Georgia is in order to highlight what Mizzou did well and not so well. I say this because normally you would be happy if Mizzou held its opponent to 62 points. However, when you consider that Georgia has been held below that number in 11 of its 16 games, all of a sudden it doesn't seem that impressive. I thought Mizzou played okay tonight, but overall was pretty lackluster at both ends even though the final score looks decent enough. I sincerely believe that a similar level of play on Saturday will result in a blowout victory for Florida.
Here is a link to the rest including individual analyses:

With a soldout crowd I think Young comes out on fire. His energy level will be contagious. We need the crowd and his energy with the short turnaround, I think we win 78-56

Insti;

Thanks for the articles. They were extremely informative. I watched the Missouri/Georgia game and noticed a couple of things:

1) Missouri went underneath almost every high ball screen Georiga set, and the defender on the player setting the pick rarely "hedged" to stop the player with the ball. Georgia's Caldwell-Pope and back-up Guard Williams really exploited that as should we.

2) Georgia played a 1-2-2 zone on defense and slowed down the ball on offense. It frustrated Missouri alot and it seemed to cause them to lose focus on defense after
15-20 seconds and give up easy shots. Plus just pass the ball around on the perimeter and then force something at the end of the shot clock on offense.

3) The guy that wrote the first article is corrent Brown and Ross are the keys. Both are build like Mack Trucks but both seem to perfer shooting 3's then going inside. The kid Ross is a transfer from Auburn is likes to shoot and can get his team back into a game and/or destroy them in the span of 15 minutes.

* Ross also hurt himself twice in the Georgia game. He twisted his ankle in the first half and stayed on the floor so long whining in pain I thought he had torn his ACL. Late in the game he took a hard foul under the basket on a rebound, but was able to go the the foul line to shoot his free throws (hoping up and down and clapping before each one), however he was in so much pain heading back down to court the referee had to stop play so he could go into the locker room. I am not sure how bad he was hurt or how much he will play, but he has DIVA written all over him.

Lastly I would not press Missouri, though it has been effective for us. They want an up tempo game and Pressey, their point guard, excels at breaking the press and scoring in transition. Sorry for the long message, but I thought this might be of interest.

Good post

1. If they go under on the ball screen and we are hitting then great.
2. How much zone are we going to play-I would say not much but from your obsevations perhaps more than normal.
3. We have guarded the 3 pt line much better and this could also frustrate them.
4. Fast pace-bad ankle-not good for Ross IMO.
5. Any thoughts on the quick turn around? Help-hurt or no factor?

Any way you look at it, this is a pretty good Gator team, despite the loss of Beal and Walker.
