Not that I am a Kat fan, don't count them out yet. Historically Cal has preformed miracles with his team. Also it is early for us as well as the Kats. With their tradition, it want take but a couple of good wins for them to be back IMO.

Florida always comes out shaky though in the beginning.... This year they're just dominant the real test will come against Arizona... Florida st shouldn't be any kind of contest...

After UK's title last year, they were too quick to anoint Cal's recent (freshmen heavy) approach as being perfectly sustainable season after season. Not saying everyone did, but enough apparently bought into the hype to way overrate this years team.

Before last year, the common belief was that you can't win a title relying on freshmen. I think too many think now that Cal can do it practically every year at UK. Neither misconception is true. Some of this is because many voters seem to think all top recruiting classes are the same. Many of you have pointed out the differences between this class and last years. I don't see a Davis or an MKG - let alone a point guard. The latter is what I consider the biggest problem. Knight and Wall bailed UK out of many games single handedly. Teague was a step down after them - but 5 steps up from anyone we've got now.

I buy into the importance of experienced players to a degree, but I still side with talent more. Last years team still wins a title (or has a shot) if you replace Jones Miller and Lamb with the Harrison twins and Andrew Wiggins - granted thats a class that will probably never exist.
A lot of smart stuff in here, especially the 2nd paragraph about how people assume the approach will work year after year. That's not true of any approach.

Of course the biggest difference between the two years is the lack of any established upperclassmen. Having Miller was huge for you guys last season, and the same is true of the two sophomores. There just aren't guys like that in the rotation for Kentucky this season. During years when the Cats don't mix the talented freshmen with some experienced hands, they are going to struggle - especially early.

I agree with him..."all but gone" implies that he has the option to stay but will go, and that's clearly not the case.

Hmmm... I always took it as the person is leaving no matter what... It's like when lynch left the bucs the announcers said he is all but gone.... And lynch did not have an option to stay....

Its amazing the turns a thread can take. This stuff can be fun to debate though. I take this phrase to mean something is as close to certain as it can be without it actually being certain. I'm not familiar with Lynch's (John Lynch I assume) situation with Tampa, but I'm guessing it was at least plausible that he could have stayed longer - at least would have been within the rules. Up in Philly, Andy Reid is all but fired. Maybe the Eagles owner even comes out and says there's no way he's coming back as coach. The phrase could still even be used here because Reid staying is still a technical possibility - unlike a case where a player has used up his eligibility. Jim Carrey can't respond with a "so you're telling me there's a chance..." There just isn't.

He couldn't stay he offered a pay cut, Tampa bay owners didn't want that because their cheap much unlike the eagles owners who will actually spend... And don't blame Andy blame the sorry ass players who got huge contracts and now aren't worth a damn..... Typical.... But I do see what your saying with this saying it can just easily misconstrued, but you say tomato I say to mah to??
