That comparison with Walker's assists really brings Scottie's numbers to light.

Can't believe the huge difference between the two in such a short period of time.

I may be remembering things incorrectly, but it seems to me that following that specific event, Billy D pretty much stopped trusting backup players and began playing the starters primarily, even with very big leads.
Themistocles;

Actually I think Billy's confidence in Orien evaporated in our loss to Creighton in the first round of the NCAA tournament (I do not remember the year). If memory serves we had the ball and the lead in the first overtime and Orien was to take the ball out of bounds and held it for a five second count AND we had timeouts remaining. I am pretty sure after that he transfered the next year.

Orien transferee because he couldn't pass the clast test and was unable to continue academically at UF. That was the sole reason.

I remember hearing something to that effect years ago. I was always under the impression that his transfer was due to academic issues, although his grades were satisfactory.

I sat next to a scholarship football player back in 1984, when I took the CLAST. I never saw someone turn back to previous sections so much. He did pass, though, because he was on the field the next season.

That is what I have heard too, but I don't know where maybe even from you on this board. Still we can not really expect him admit to that if it is true. That does however makes sense given the the timing of his transfer and where he transferred to.

It was well known at the time. He did say he really didn't want to leave UF but his hands were tied.

As you know UF is not going to comment on a players reason for xfer generally and due to privacy laws can't comment on academic issues specifically.

Right, it was one of those things that was well known. And Buckley ammendment or not UF should not be comment on someone failling a test like the CLAST test. It would be low class and UF should be above that.

Reread my post, my bad. That last sentence made it sound like Orien transfered because of that play and as you stated that was incorrect. What I tried to say was that the play that led to a lack of confedence in Orien in my opinion was the Creighton game. Sorry about that.

I thought that Villanova in the 2nd round was Lee/Roberson/Walsh's last game as Gators.

After UF made the round of 16 in 1999 and then played in the finals in 2000, I meant to but never made a post entitle, "It is this easy." In it I planned to say don't get down on this program when there is a first weekend loss or two.

But alas before I wrote this post on any board UF:

01: UF as a 3 seed lost to 11 seed Temple in a round of 32 game.
02: UF as a 5 seed lost to 12 seed Creighton in a round of 64 game when some unknown guy came of the bench and hit something like 8 threes in the second half.
03: UF as a 2 seed lost to 7 seed Michigan State in a round of 32 game.
04: UF as a 5 seed lost by 15 to 12 seed Manhattan in the round of 64.
05: UF as a 4 seed lost to 5 seed Villanova in the round of 32.

Greene's last season at UF was 02. So that Creighton game was the last one he played in at UF.

yep

and everyone was freaking out less than a month later.

I was brimming with the optimism of the possibilities I saw in the young guys.

Just like I was saying wilbekin would be a legitimate player at PG when he was a freshman and that we should play him as much as possible so that he could be ready to start full time as a sophomore

and put the guy who was starting at PG in his true position as a an off the bench/situational guard at either position. getting roughly 22 minutes a game in optimal situations.

I know J Ham was a really good defender but don't remember him as being as "lock down" as Scottie is. He might not be as tall as J Ham but he is so quick and strong and fundamentally sound. And am glad to see his confidence rising in his offense. Going to basket now and really creating. Fun to watch someone get so much better.
