RB - I want to say Collins, but I am not seeing it. Andrew never commited on him
WR - I would like to see Clark, because we have NO DEPTH and need a lot.
FB - Swanson if we have a spot
DT - Reed, 1000 visit = will sign with UF if he has an offer in hand and grades in order.
DE - Daniels, grades in order, everything sounds positive.
DB - Ramsey, unless USC he loves the new DC, we could have a shot.

That is six, and while Collins is the least likely, I am confident there will be roster spots open by Summer B.

Andrew, 5 more? Isn't it 6 more (25 plus 8 = 33 and we currently have 27, thus, 33 -27 = 6)?

Wish we'd gotten Collins on a later visit. With Miami coming last, I don't like our chances.

Clark seems just at or below fifty-fifty with Clemson coming into the picture. No feeling on Swamson. We might take care of that need next year, or get someone to switch positions.

I think Reed is in the bag.

Daniel is in the bag if his grades are in order. If our admissions people allow him to visit, he's probably good to go.

Getting Ramsey on for a late visit makes me think we have a good shot.

Not writing off Adams yet.

I think we get four more. One will be someone not mentioned on this list. This will be a number one class unless Bama finds six or seven more guys to offer. They're ranked right behind us with only 20 commits. Then again, we've got two or three five star prospects still in play. If we finish with two of them, we will be hard to catch. Not that stars or recruiting rankings really matter.

Montravious Adams
Jalen Ramsey
Elijah Daniels
And
Jaynard Bostwick

That would be a load!!!!

Usually, signing "Too Many" prospects in a class proves risky because it can cause shortages in your depth for later years, when fewer ships are available. This was Meyer's problem. His 2006 and 2007 classes were both large, and few transferred, thus, 2008 and 2009 were very small (both under 20), which, despite the large 2010 class, is the major cause for the shortages today and in 2007 (the shortage of experienced players in the lines). The first year classes for both Meyer and Muschamp were largely busts, which also contributes to the shortages. About the only way around this is to sign large numbers just about every year, which Bama usually does, and which is made possible by a large number of transfers.

Now, recruiting several Transfers, as with this team, and if Reed is added, shortens the cycle, and helps one recruit larger classes sooner.

Nonetheless, I really think that recruiting more than 30 for a given class is not a wise choice (unless #31 and #32, say, are both last minute +1s).

I agree with you Themistocles but it looks like we are following the Bama model. We had 8 that transferred from WM's first recruiting class. I expect that to be a trend. I know it makes for a better team but I don't like the idea that a kid who wants to be a gator is "encouraged" to transfer if not first or second team.

I don't think that will turn out to be a trend. WM had to sign a few reaches last year to fill position needs. I wasn't surprised by many of the kids who decided to leave. He's not had to do that this year. Out of the thirty we eventually sign, quite a few have less than five years eligibility left and as many as four or five could end up going to the NFL after only three years. Of the actual freshmen, over half will be redshirted.

I agree that we will see less recruiting misses that result in encouraged transfers. This staff made Earl Okine a regular performer on the DL. That is the same player that could not develop and contribute under Strong or Mattison despite having a freakish physique. This staff will be able to develop most of the players they recruit.

This is not true. We were playing with too few because Meyer signed too few and generally a coach's first year he doesn't (can't) sign a full class, which is what happened to Muschamp in his first recruiting class.

We signed 26 in 2006 with only 17 spots available. We were down to 79 because of too much attrition. In 2007 we oversigned again. Too much attrition again and we ended the season with 71. Then we had 24 spots and only signed 21. 79 by the end of that year. Attrition finally slowed, but by then we were "saving" spots for better players the next year. 2009, we lost 17 and only signed 17. Down to 78 by end of '10. Signed 27 to replace 27.

'11 it was 80 because we signed some walk-ons and we got 22 to replace 22, Muschamp's first class. Of course, after his first year we lost a lot, so we were down to 75 by the end of this year. Now, we're trying to sign as many as possible. We weren't playing with full rosters because we couldn't sign enough. We weren't because we actually chose to not sign enough to fill our roster.

You know the old saying, a bird in the hand, is worth two in the bush? It's 100% true here. Money works the same way as well. A guy who's not as good this year is better for depth and the years he has left than the guy you might sign next year.

Switch Bostwick for Swanson and I would not care if OJ Simpson was added to the class after that; though I still would like to somehow get Coley.
